Velda Jo, If John W. Cooper is of our line, he would by virtue of his birthdate, probably be one of the grandson's of the Cooper brothers that migrated from SC and Hall Cty GA to Monroe or Ittawabia County Miss. That would be Jonathan, Alston or possibly John or Issac Washington. We know the first two migrated there. Am quite sure one or both of the latter two did. Another brother, my GGG Grandfather Amos migrated to the Marion County Ala/Monroe Cty Miss State Line. If they all did, which I believe is true at this point, that would total five brother's that migrated. They all lived relatively close although seperated at times by State and County Lines that moved over periods of time. Amos's line, I know stayed in Marion County (my line). The majority if not all of Jonathan and Alston's line moved to Ark after their deaths, 1865 and 1858 respectively. These lines were heavily connected to Massey's. It is possible that John ( JW or IW in 1850 census was connected to a Massey- NO Proof as yet, again I suspect your's is a grandson of one of these brothers.) There is an IW on the Marion Cty, Ala 1850 census, next county. I suspect the definite IW in Marion County is Issac Washington and that the one in Monroe County which is hard to discern as to J or I is JW or John, the missing brother. If John and Issac were in the area as I suspect, I do not know if they went on to Ark or stayed in the Ala/Miss area. These brothers were 5 of 10 children of Jacob and Rachel Cooper of Union SC. Jacob was one of 11 children of William and Elizabeth (Lydia, Lidy) Clark of Bucks County PA and Union Cty SC. By virture of the number of children, there are obviously thousands of descendants from this line, not to mention the descendants from the large number of children that their forefathers had. Joseph is the only brother that we know for sure stayed in SC. He married Cassandra Fowler and died in SC in 1868. Do not know what happened to Eli. Some researcher's feel he is the Eli Cooper that went west. There is another Eli in the SC area but belongs to a Cooper family we have not connected to as of yet. Let's see, That's seven boy's right? Now to the girls. Hannah married Jesse Cole and moved with Alston to Hall Cty Ga. Not sure after that. Lydia, named for her grandmother moved with Alston to Hall Cty, Ga. According to researcher Carroll Smith she is listed in early Hall County History. May have married Hiram Jones and remained in Hall Cty according to probate records. Sally married a "B" Vaughn in SC. She is last listed in Jacobs 1829 Estate Paper's. "Baby Mary", a child from Jacob's first marriage was given up for adoption. It is assumed that her mother died at birth. Paper's show that Hugh and Sarah Ely took her under adoption contract in 1788. Further research seems to indicated that Hugh and Sarah were relatives of this Cooper family. I have copie's of the will's of many of these Cooper's to include picture's of Amos Cooper's line back to Amos himself, born 1793. They are also preserved in the Marion County, Alabama Heritage Book published earlier this year. If you would like a copy I can get the address for you. The cost is around $60. Information on Many of these Cooper ancestor's can be found in the Union County SC Heritage Book. I plan on attempting to get a copy of that. I have copies of some of this courtesy of Dr. Carroll Smith of Greenville SC, one of our long lost cousin's. Well hon, the ball is in your part of the court. She what you can find to help connect us. I'll continue to look as a have time. Stay in touch. Danny Cooper Byrd
