    1. [COOPER-L] New York Coopers that went to Canada
    2. Conrad V. Dennis
    3. Has anyone familiar with the Coopers that left New York state for Canada in 1832 (see Lampham's Brief History page 12) investigated the "why they left" ? There was a "Histories Mysteries" episode (History Channel) that talked about the history of the Masonic and Anti-Masonic movements. In 1826, a William Morgan was killed in "western New York" because he published secret Masonic information. An Anti-Masonic movement began and culminated in the 1832 formation of the Anti-Masonic Party, forebearer of the Whig Party. It was stated in this show that several Masons from western New York sought refuge in Canada. Perhaps a coincidence, perhaps not. I will be investigating this theory and would welcome any comments or suggestions from the descendants of the Coopers of Western New York.
