Has anyone familiar with the Coopers that left New York state for Canada in 1832 (see Lampham's Brief History page 12) investigated the "why they left" ? There was a "Histories Mysteries" episode (History Channel) that talked about the history of the Masonic and Anti-Masonic movements. In 1826, a William Morgan was killed in "western New York" because he published secret Masonic information. An Anti-Masonic movement began and culminated in the 1832 formation of the Anti-Masonic Party, forebearer of the Whig Party. It was stated in this show that several Masons from western New York sought refuge in Canada. Perhaps a coincidence, perhaps not. I will be investigating this theory and would welcome any comments or suggestions from the descendants of the Coopers of Western New York.
