    3. Dear Subscribers to the COOPER Surname Mailing List/Discussion Group, After searching for some time for the parents of Jacob COOPER, born 16 Nov 1762 in West Springfield, Massachusetts, I found the answer in ~SPOONER Saga~ by Esther Littleford Woodworth-Barnes, page 17. Jacob COOPER married Rebecca SPOONER, 30 Sep 1792, in New London, Connecticut. Jacob COOPER was recorded ~at birth~ as ISAAC COOPER, son of Samuel COOPER and Mercy JONES, in West Springfield, massachusetts. Samuel COOPER was the son of Dr. Samuel COOPER, who was the son of Thomas COOPER, Jr., who was the son of Thomas COOPER the Immigrant [also known as Thomas COOPER of Springfield, Massachusetts]. Thus, Jacob COOPER was a great great grandson of Thomas COOPER the Immigrant. The fact that Jacob COOPER's name was Isaac COOPER at birth explains why I was not able to find his parents. But this raises the puzzling issue of why his name was changed, and when. Jacob COOPER [born Isaac] served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting at West Springfield, when seventeen years of age. He served a nine-month enlistment, divided between Colonel John MOSELELY's Regiment and Colonel GREATON's Regiment. If any COOPER researchers have more information on the Isaac COOPER/Jacob COOPER name change, please contact me! I have traced Jacob COOPER from the Revolutionary War until his death in 1842, in Suffield, Connecticut. It is the period from birth to age seventeen that I am lacking. Thank You, Randal W. Cooper
