    1. [COOPER-L] AMOS COOPER 1793 SC
    2. In response to Annie's question's and other's 1. Amos Cooper born 1793 in SC to Jacob and Rachel Cooper. 2. Do not know his middle name. Some people confuse him with his son Amos Pinckney Cooper because of incorrect data in Family Tree Maker Vol 8 Tree # 3590. 3. Married Nancy Turner daughter of Henry and Nancy Turner of SC. 4. Had at least two children by this first marriage. Jane Cooper born 1822 SC married Luther Rice Cantrell. Tumal Frances Cooper born 1836 SC married John P. Cantrell, Younger brother of Luther Rice Cantrell. (Seems there should be more?) 5. Moved to Marion County Alabama after 1836 and purchased at least 80 acres of land on Sept 10, 1838. 6. Somewhere between 1836 and 1839 lost his wife Nancy Turner. 7. Married Elizabeth Williams Cantrell born 1820 SC, sister of his two son-in laws. 8. Do not know where the middle name Williams came from. 9. The three Cantrell's, Luther Rice, John P and Elizabeth Williams were children of Martin Cantrell and Catherine Rice of 96th district, Spartenburg SC who also migrated to Marion County Alabama and bought land. 10. Had a son Amos Pinckney Cooper born Dec 10, 1839 in Marion County AL. 11. Descendants of Luther Rice and John P Cantrell show Amos Pinckney as being the third and last son of Amos marriage to Nancy Turner. Descendants of Amos Pinckney show him as being the first son of Amos marriage to Elizabeth Williams Cantrell. I do not know. I do know that the picture's I have of Amos Pickney and his sister or half sisterJane show remarkable facial resemblance to each other. Some descendants of Amos Cooper also claim Elizabeth Williams Cantrell was the widow of Martin Cantrell and not his daughter. Do not believe this to be true as I have found data indicating that Martin Cantrell was still living much later. 12. Assume the middle name Pinckney came from SC Where Pinckney district was formed in 1795 embracing the present counties of Union and York and part of Cherokee. Could also have come from a plantation owner named Pinckney in SC. 13. Had four more children by Elizabeth Williams Cantrell. Juliana 1844, Catherine Willams 1846, Mary (Molly) 1852 and Elizabeth (Sug) 1855. 14. His farm was valued at $1200 in the 1850 census. 15. Purchased two more tracts of land in 1854 on the Marion/Lamar County Line. 16. Purchased 311 more acres in Marion County on Mar 1, 1858. 17. Land valued at $1040 with $16,465 worth of personal estate in 1860 census. His son Amos Pickney's land was valued at $1000 and he claimed $1763 of personal estate during the same census. 18. Died sometime after the 1860 census. 19. To answer Anna's question, Pink Cantrell was the great grandson of Amos Cooper and first cousin once removed of Amos Pinckney Cooper as well as half grandnephew depending upon whether Amos Pinckney's birth mother was Nancy Turner or Elizabeth Williams Cantrell. Since Pink Cantrell is descendant of the first marriage then he would be the grandson of Nancy Turner and grandnephew of the second wife Elizabeth Williams Cantrell. Confusing is'nt it ? 20. This Cantrell bunch that married Amos first two daughter's took a wagon train and moved to Texas after the civil war. I have been in contact with several of their descendants. Hope this helps to clear some things up Danny Cooper Byrd
