Sue, While hunting for another surname I'm working on, I just came across a reference to a LOUISA JANE SCROGGINS, b. Abt. 1830, Tennessee; m. JAMES SKELTON, Aug 16, 1849, Barry County, Missouri. Do you suppose it could be a lead to your Doris? Follow this chain of events: While in Christian Co., KY looking for records for Cader COOPER and his father John Cotton Cooper, in addition to finding records for them, I found a marriage record for James SCOGGINS and Lurana NICHOLS. I saved it, "just in case", since my husband's COOPER grandmother's maiden name was SCOGIN(spelled many different ways) and I am having a hard time tying her father to earlier roots.
