Thanks so much, Danny, for this very interesting info about the COOPERS. And I see that you are a BYRD. My husband's line goes back to Nathan BYRD b: abt 1780 in Anson Co., NC, migrated to Perry Co., TN, then to Johnson Co., AR where he died mid 1800's. My father-in-law told us we descend from "THE BYRDS of VA", but I don't know who he was talking about. It doesn't look like "THE" William Byrd was the ancestor. Believe he was the son of a William Cooper that migrated in the late 1600's from England. There is an historical brick building built by them still standing on Coopers Point in Camden today. It was damaged by fire several years ago. I drove down to look at it when I was researching my William Cooper of Bucks County/Philadelphia who turned out to be unrelated to this Cooper bunch. These Coopers were quite wealthy at that time. Coopers Point is now located in a extremely low income area. Did not appear very safe to visit without being accompanied by someone from the historical society. There is also a Cooper River in the area. Cooper's Point can be found on the old maps of that time period and I believe on the local maps of the area. You might want to try an internet search.
