Cooper was born in 1813 in Jamestown, VA., the son of Thomas T. b 1786 and Maggie Patterson Cooper. Thomas brought his family with a few personal possessions by oxcart on their trek into TN. Thomas was a farmer and settled in the north west area of the county known as District 15. In 1838 Sidney W. married Elizabeth Jones and they were the parents of the following children. Jonh W. b 1839 was a bachelor who died of pneumonia while serving in the Civil War. Mary b 1841 married Bill Babb; Frances b 1843 d 1926 "Fannie" married Ben Pirtle. Thomas J. b 1845 moved to Arkansas died and was buried there. Sidney W. Jr. b 1847 d 1930 married twice. By his first wife Mary C. he had Luther, Lily, Lulu and Odella.
