Dear Subscribers to the COOPER Surname Mailing List, Quite a while ago, in a book at the Ohio Genealogical Society Library at Mansfield, Ohio, I ran across a COOPER whose given name was either Isaiah, Ezekiel or Elijah, who was said to be member of the Mohegan tribe of Indians in the state of Connecticut. The wife of this Mohegan COOPER (Elijah or Ezekiel or Isaiah) was granted a divorce from him, on grounds of cruelty. If I remember correctly, the year that the divorce occurred was about 1837. Unfortunately, I have misplaced my notes on this, and now the issue of Mohegans and COOPERs has risen in prominence in my research. I am appealing, therefore, to the members of the COOPER Discussion Group for help. Does anyone have information on COOPERs who were Connecticut Mohegans?
