Vicki: I am responding to the list as I thought others might be interested. In March I had an email from Betty Dunquez as I was looking for a connection in my Cooper line --from Covington Cooper to Leighton Cooper. I needed the father of Covington who could be either Richard or Robert. Still don't have that. However, Betty said that she too had a Patrick Woods married to Rachel Cooper in 1792 in Richmond, Ky. She said that they had several children and Rachel died, Patrick married a Fanney Delaney and moved to Howard CO, Missouri in early 1800's. Rachels father was Francis Cooper and her mother Anne Abbott. Francis Cooper's father was a Benjamin Cooper born about 1700 in Pennsylvania. She said in her email that she had not documented any of this except that Patrick Woods was married to a Rachel Cooper. I try to hang on to anything that might connect somehow and appreciated Betty's giving me that info. Pat and Vicki, Would you mind including me in your Rachel et al loop, too, please. Especially since she was in KY. I have been trying to identify the connection between Benjamin and the David<Marcome line from whom my husband's John Cotten now appears to be descended. John C. and many of his sons,Cader,Abner,Marcum,...were in KY by early 1800s. I had gotten Betty's line back in the spring, too, and we were working on sorting these guys out. I feel like Benjamin might possibly be a key to a link between what I call "my two Cader lines". The first one was the one in Bertie Co.,NC. In his family information there is a receipt for an Edward Manning. Then I found where an Edward Mannning, that would seem to be the same one, was a bondsman for the marriage of *a* Benjamin in MD that would be about the right time. (My grandmother was a Manning, too.) Do you think Covington was named for a forbear's surname? Now,to further mix things up, data that was supplied to me by Emma Shepherd,a descendant of Abner, fromIL, has John Cotten's son Marcum married to a Patsy Howerton. My paternal greatgrandmother was another MarthaJane"Patsy"Howerton,m.in KnoxCo.,KY in1876. But I have learned from my research on them that there were others that were in Christian Co. too, which is where John Cotten and his son Cader were. There was a Howerton man who married a Mrs. Covington, and a Covington is also mentioned in the "little ledger" of the older Cader's family. (sorry I don't have all the specifics right at hand.)And of course the town of Covington is in TN just below Christian Co. I've seen little snippets of Leighton/Layton before, but could you send me your line with locations too, please? Keep in touch and we will see where these folks came from. Thanks, Nancy Pat Boden wrote: > > Vicki: > > I am responding to the list as I thought others might be interested.
