Think I will have to send a letter to their historical society or someplace to find it. I have no information on Nathaniel's parentage nor do I have any idea who he might have been travelling with. I should check the census records for the names of the families you mentioned to see if any of them are nearby. I don't know where in PA my gr grandfather, Hulbert DeWitt (he went by DeWitt H.) was born but apparently their second child, James FitzJames was b in Frankfort, KY. The parents of Wilhelmenia Pepper are buried near Pultneyville - the mother was also Wilhelmenia and I am wondering if he maiden name might have been DeWitt as she was from Holland. Have forgotten the father's name and don't seem to have either in my database for some reason. I know there were also Pardees in the area which a now deceased cousin of my Dad's said was Nathaniel's middle name so that may be a clue to his parents if I could find a marriage record for them - ah! but where? Death records in that time frame? Land and wills or probates - I still have a great deal of work to do yet and it is slow and difficult to do it from far away Oregon. I just ordered the 37 marker DNA test to be done on my brother's 12 marker DNA he submitted for me to FamilyTree Dna. Hopefully that will be helpful. Please keep in touch and I will check the census records I can retreive through the Godfrey Library site and will let you know what I might find. Carroll (Cooper) Summers Hi Carroll, would you believe Pultneyville is the area my ancestors went to abt 1808!!!! I do not know about Nathaniel, but the Coopers in Williamson or Pultneyville came from NJ, Vermont and NY. Located on the migration path westward, it was a stopping off point for many travelers. I do not know the all the childrens names of my Coopers, but the Cowles and Peppers were right there too. Do you have other names that traveled with your Nathaniel?? There was a Sarah Cooper that married a Cowles, I think, from another posting a couple of years ago, and I will see if I can find it. Do you have any Conk or Couch, Cottrell, Lewis, Grandin, Johnson, Waite, Culver, Stewart ?? At last, someone in my research area.....Perils in NY -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2004 10:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [COOPER] Coopers of NJ, New England, NY, early Hi Perils, In your Cooper research of upstate NY have you ever run across a Nathaniel P (Parda/Pardee???) Cooper. He was probably b abt 1806 "in NY" according to census records. He was married in 1835, Pultneyville, Wayne, NY to Sophia Lucinda Cowles, dau of Russell Cowles, b CT and Wilhelmina Pepper, b Holland. Nathaniel is my brick wall. My brother has donated his DNA to the Cooper DNA project and we will soon be upgrading the 12 marker test to 36. Hoping that will help break down the wall. Just thought I would ask you since you are doing so much research in that area. Thanks Carroll (Cooper) Summers Oregon Hi list, as we speak, I am doing intensive research on the early Coopers of New Jersey. My search has been focused on the Coopers of Eastern NJ, as I am looking for the origin of a Thos Cooper, wf Mary, who migrated to upstate NY circa 1800 or so. There are at least 4 lines of Coopers represented there before 1800, including an Ezekiel from the James of Coopers Point, circa 1750 or so. I am currently exploring the lines of New England Coopers, looking for the origins of the ones who migrated to NJ as land became available. My other New England lines are Balch, Gardner, Bowne,Veren, Conant, Dodge, picked up the Tetor or Dietz in Morris County, NJ, and Cottrell in Monmouth County. The name Conk , Lewis and Grandin appear in NJ for me, and hopefully they will somehow shed some positive light on my elusive Cooper. Nathan, descendent of John and Wilbroe was in Morris County too, if I remember correctly, with out checking my notes. Please post your correspondence so we can all perhaps benefit from it........hey, you never know!!!
