Cooper, Jr., 72 CLINTON — Mr. Calvin Everette "Pete" Cooper Jr., 72, of 2385 Turkey Highway, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Sampson Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Born in 1929 in Amherst County, Va., Mr. Cooper was the son of Calvin Everette and Nellie Gracie Tyree Cooper Sr. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War and Vietnam. He is survived by his wife, Mamie B. Cooper; three daughters, Patsy Alcorn of Bay City, Mich., Cheryl Pilgrim of Ocala, Fla., and Karen Cantinari of Savona, N.Y.; three sons, Jerry Cooper of Washington, Mich., Mike Cooper of Rochester, N.Y., and Steve Cooper of Sterling Heights, Mich.; two stepsons, Henry Allen Matthis of Clinton and Robert B. Matthis of Salemburg; one brother, Franklin D. Cooper of Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 1313 Jasper Street, Apt. G, Clinton. Mamie M. Cooper, 81 CLINTON — Mrs. Mamie Butler Matthis Cooper, 81, of Forest Trails Retirement Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Sampson Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 9) in Royal-Hall Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Burial will be in the Matthis family cemetery. Mrs. Cooper was born in 1920 in Cumberland County to the late Allen Judson and Mahala Harris Butler. She was a member of Rowan Baptist Church and a housewife. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L "Bud" Matthis; her second husband, Calvin E. "Pete" Cooper; and two daughters, Vicci Gail Matthis and Leone M. Carden. She is survived by two sons, Henry Allen Matthis of Clinton and Robert B. Matthis of Salemburg; three stepdaughters, Patsy Alcorn of Bay City, Mich., Cheryl Pilgrim of Ocala, Fla., and Karen Cantinari of Savona, N.Y.; three stepsons, Jerry Cooper of Washington, Mich., Mike Cooper of Rochester, N.Y., Steve Cooper of Sterling Heights, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home in Clinton and at other times in the home of Henry Allen Matthis, 5316 Faison Highway, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 35045, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303. Hope this helps. Bill
