Hi, I recently joined this list because I have begun to research my great-great-great grandfather's line, James M. COOPER born 1799 NJ died 1868. He was a gunner in the US Navy commissioned in 1837 and served in the Navy all his life. In 1861 he and his family were stationed at Pensacola, Florida when they surrended to the Confederate army. I've also learned that he served on the USS St. Lawarence in the 1850's which was the flag ship of the Pacific Squadron. From what I have been able to piece together so far, it looks like he was married twice. Here is the family.... 1st wife ??????? - children: 1. Mary Ann Cooper b. 1829 PA d. 1865 NJ married James Ray MINUGH 2nd wife Hannah ????? b. 1822 NJ d. 1909 - children: 1. Rebecca Morgan Cooper b. abt. 1843 NY married Loudon CAMPBELL 2. James Benjamin Cooper b. abt. 1850 NJ 3. Fanny V. Cooper b. 1852 NJ d. 1929 married Benjamin F. KEYSER 4. Helena Cooper b. abt. 1855 NJ d. 1942 married Robert BRADFORD 5. Griffith Morgan Cooper b. 1857 NJ d. 1917 married Amelia C. 6. Stephen Cooper b. abt. 1866 NJ It is looking very likely that his father was Capt. James B. COOPER who was born in New Jersey in 1761 and who died at Haddonfield, NJ in 1854. Capt. Cooper was married 1st to Rebecca MORGAN and 2nd to Elizabeth CLEMENT. From what I have been able to learn, Capt. Cooper had four sons who were in the Navy, Griffith Morgan Cooper, Benjamin Cooper, Alexander Hamilton Cooper and I think possibly my gggrandfather, James M. Cooper. Does anyone know the names of the children of Capt. James B. Cooper and is anyone else interested in the Haddonfield/Camden Coopers? - Ed
