Curt; Thanks so much...................I am only second guessing at this time. I had sent an inquiry to this list on my ex-husband's family. My ex-husband is deceased and he never knew his biological father. His parents divorced when he was a baby and never saw him again. My ex's name was Lee Allen Cooper Jr. born 8/22/1947 in St. Louis, Mo. His bio father, of course, was Lee Allen Cooper Sr. My ex-mother-in-law was Josephine Leona (Hampton) Cooper. (Now Matthews) She leaves in Illinois and is elderly and has difficulty with her memory. I am trying to trace the Cooper family for my daughter and her son. I have never had much luck with Lee Allen Cooper Sr. My ex-mother-in-law says he was born 5/6/1926-27 in Kirkwood, Missouri. (Near St. Louis) But I have had no luck in this area of finding a birth certificate. To be truthful, she verily knew him and they were only married a little over two years, so I am not sure she knows. It does say on my ex-husband's birth certificate that his father was 21 at his birth. That would place Lee Sr.'s birth in 1926. A very nice man on this list named Ben was trying hard to help me. He found a census for 1930 that showed a child named Allen Cooper at 3.5 years old. Again, that would place Lee Allen Sr. in the same birth year. It shows the following for the rest of his family. Floyd Cooper Head 26 Maxine or Mammie (not sure of name) wife 23 Gladys daughter 5 Allen son 3 1/2 Juanita daughter 2/12 Carl ( I think) son 4/12 My ex-mother-in-law never knew Lee Sr's parents names. She said he had a sister named Lolita and my daughter looks just like her. But I am wondering if she is remembering it incorrectly and it could have been Jaunita, as Ben suggested. On the same street is another Cooper family. Lewis Head 54 Liza wife 47 Guy or Gary son 24 Ben son 19 Jewell daughter 16 Everett son 11 Tella daughter 5 I wondered if Floyd was a son of this family? She did state that Lee Allen Cooper Sr.'s father was a sheriff at some point in time, somewhere in Missouri. But that has not been confirmed and coming from a person with a poor memory. She said that Lee Allen Sr's father left the family never to return and his mother had to raise the kids and was crippled. Funny she would remember all of that, but not their names. I have sent the 1930 census to her to see if anything rings a bell, but no response to date. I will be surprised if she does reply. Anyway, since I could not locate anything on a Lee Allen Cooper that matched Sr.'s birthday or anything in Missouri, I am looking close at him going by Allen Cooper.My ex-mother-in-law may assume he was born in Kirkwood, even though that is what is on my ex-husband's birth certificate, I am not sure.
