I just found my gr. gr. gr. grandfather William Stephens Cooper in Marion Co. Georgia. He supposedly was born somewhere in North Carolina around 1810. In the "History of Marion County" it is said that he left NC to do battle in the Indian Wars. Then resettled in Georgia around 1840. He first came in the 1840s to Stewart Co., GA but then bought 300 acres in Marion Co. on the border of Webster Co. He married Elizabeth Bacon of Marion Co. in the early 1840s. He died in March 1860. William & Elizabeth's children were: Jonathan L. Cooper b. 1843 died in Civil War. Louisa Cooper b. 2/11/1845 d. 4/18/1908 m. John Henry Wilder Sarah Elizabeth Cooper b. 1848 Hardy Gilpin Cooper b. 2/1/1849 d. 6/3/1922 n, Margaret Elizabeth Rayborn Martha A. Cooper b. 5/20/1852 m. John T. Lawhorn William Edmond Cooper b. 12/20/1853 m. Martha V. McMickle & Leanna McMickle & Mary Green Thomas L. Cooper b. 1856 n, Allie Marshall Fleet Wood Cooper b. 6/19/1859 d. 3/8/1943 m Laura Judy Jordan & Minnie Lee Green & Minnie Ola Harry I've looked through the archives at the Cooper Rootsweb List & have found many William Coopers b. in NC around the right time who might be this William but I needed more information. I hope someone will recognize William and maybe a family name in the children's names. Thank you.
