    3. I received the following e-mail from a friend in Douglas County Nevada about property being sold that includes a historical cemetery that is listed as one of Nevada's eleven most endangered cemeteries. There are phone numbers to call if you can help or pass this on to someone that can. Jeri Cooper Michigan Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 02:46:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Marg Subject: Native American Cemetery To: [email protected] My uncle is planning on making a move to subdivide property which includes this graveyard ... Hi All In Douglas County near the Ruhenstroth subdivision area, east side of Hwy 395, approx. 5 miles south of Gardnerville is the oldest known Native American cemetery in that area. On Tuesday, Sept 14th, 1pm, a planned development of 120 acres to contain 84 single family parcels will be presented to the Douglas County Planning Commission for approval. The cemetery either flanks, or is part of the acreage for the planned development. The exact location of the cemetery is not generally known except to the older, still living residents. Because of the cemetery's historical significance, and Preserve Nevada listing cemeteries on its Eleven Most Endangered, it behooves us to do what we can to save it and/or see that access to the site is preserved. It is important for me to remove myself from this issue, however. I am asking you to consider implementing measures such as bringing the information forward during public comment, talking to or leaving phone messages for the commissioners before the meeting (see, Douglas County Nevada, Sept. 14th Planning Commission meeting on the web) and/or contacting the Washoe Tribe (775-265-2629, 775-265-4191, 775-883-1446 or in Carson at 775-885-2080). I'm not sure which phone number would reach their governing body, I suspect the 265-2629 to be. Bringing the information forward during public comment will establish commissioner fiduciary responsibility to research before proceeding forward. Perhaps too, discuss with or inform the remainder of the PN Board. My stepping aside is because this is my brother's land. Unfortunately, both my sister and I were not included in Settelmeyer Ranches, Inc., this sizable estate was all given to/taken by my brother ten years ago. To this day, I suspect forever, it will remain a very touchy issue for me. Thank you for handling this item. Honor --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
