    3. Hello All, My Great Uncle Thomas Powell COOPER was born 1904 in AL. He joined the Merchant Marines at an early age. He was one of a few survivors of the torpedoing of the SS CHATHAM. He almost froze to death in 20 minutes and took over a year to heal. Due to that experience, he designed life boat improvements and inventing some other things. He travelled everywhere and always sent post cards to his sisters (my grandma & great aunt). They had pretty stamps that I admired as a child. One is a card of Jack Dempsey and he mentions the new car speed record being set in 1965 by Jim Clark (170+ mph). Only a few cards survived as listed below.
