Dear List, I have been working back along a Cooper line that was brought to Northern CA in about 1860, by HENRY HARRISON COOPER. He was listed as H.H. Cooper in the 1850 census in Fayette, Seneca Co., NY; as Henry H. Cooper in the 1860 census of San Francisco and in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Petaluma, CA. In 1890, he registered to vote in Petaluma as Henry Harrison Cooper. All these records agree that he was born in NY; the indicated birth years vbary from 1810 to 1816. He is reported to have died in San Jose, CA in 1906, but I have not seen that record yet. Can anyone help me to discover his ancestry, or the maiden name of his wife Elizabeth? Rick- I am pretty sure that this Henry COOPER was my 2nd great-uncle. His father Henry (Hendrich) COOPER was born 17 July 1778 in Poestenkill, Renssalaer, NY, d 19 Mar 1854 Wampsville, Madison, NY. m Dec 1796 in East Greenbush (Dutch) Reformed Church, NY to Elizabeth SCHAEFFER/SHAVER. Had following children: HENRY COOPER d after 1898, m "Betsy", 2 children: Ed; Ada m. <?> ANDREWS Conrad COOPER m Sarah Elizabeth Knight, 10 children John COOPER 1797-1874 m Mariah Dann, 6 ch Hannah COOPER b1799, m John Thompson Chrisjohn or Christian COOPER b 1803 Martin COOPER 4 children William H. COOPER 1808-1880 m Mary Thompson, 4 ch. Philip COOPER Hiram Henry COOPER 1819-1883 m Delia Ann MURDOCK, 6 ch - incl my great grandfather Hiram Henry was born in Troy, NY, and I don't think his parents wandered far from that area, so I suspect the others were born there too. Some of of the children, including Henry, lived/worked in the Cleveland area. Hope this is the Henry you are looking for! Would be happy to exchange more information with you.
