My g grandfather Jerome (or Joe) Riley Cooper, was b. Jan 1859, TX, m. Sarah Ann (Sally) Mosley 5-24-1893, Canadian, Hemphill Co., TX, at which time he was living in Old Mobeetie, TX, sometimes referred to as "Hide Town." They moved to Miami, TX in Roberts Co., and Joe Cooper served two terms as Sheriff of Robets Co. They had 4 children. The 1900 census for Roberts Co., shows Joe's occupation as "freighter" and that his parents were born in MS and AL. In or about 1902 Joe Cooper abandoned his family and disappeared. It was rumored that he went to work for a ranch somewhere in the Texas Panhandle, but the family never head from him again. Where and when was Joe Cooper born in Texas? Did he have any siblings?
