    3. Cathy, I don't know if this is your same one, but sure sounds like it. And you may already have the info. I was just going through some of my collection of copies/paper notes I have, and found this, and thought I recognized the Denson name, so did a file search. This is taken from MARRIAGE AND DEATH NOTICES FROM THE SOUTH WESTERN BAPTIST NEWSPAPER, (p.24) this article dated 8-4-1852. "Died in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, June 18, 1852, John M. Cooper, in the thirty-seventh year of his age, having accidently shot himself, the whole load, twelve buck shot entering his right breast just below the collar bone, six shots passing through the shoulder and causing almost instant death. He only lived about five hours after he was shot...The subject of the present obituary was born in Warren County, Georgia. His father removed to Putnam County when he was quite young. His mother had previously died...He came to Morgan County from Putnam where he lived some years, thence to Walton County where he married the daughter of Wm. Denson in 1839. He removed from Georgia to Louisiana in 1846, and in 1850 was one of nine who were constituted into a church in this place(Sparta)). He leaves a wife and six children." This is not much more than you listed, and you may already have this info, but I thought maybe the counties in GA would help some. I also search Putnam for my Lane ancestors, so will check for anything else that comes along. There was a Lewis J. Cooper in Jones' district in Thomas County that won a Cherokee Land Lottery (1838, could have claimed it sooner, but no notation on his date). 27th dist., 3rd section. I hope this is some help. In 1838 Walton County, GA he married Permelia Ann DENSON, and they moved to Bienville Parish, LA in about 1849. Their children were: > > Susan Catherine, born about 1838, married Jesse BAGLEY and moved to Texas; > Malinda Caroline, born about 1841, married Casamino TELLES and lived in Ouachita Parish, LA and perhaps Tennessee; > William Joseph, born 1842, married Louisa Elizabeth GODFREY in LA and moved to TX; > James Green, born 1846 in GA, married Sophire Alice HAMILTON in TX in 1877; > Thomas Gibson, died 1870 in LA > John Hilyar, born 1848, died 1866 in LA > > According to his obituary, John McCutchie COOPER's mother died leaving several small children, of whom John M. was the oldest son. He and his siblings were apparently sent to live with different families and their father removed to another county. John M.'s older sister Martha Ann COOPER was born about 1814, and married Nathan MEREDITH in Newton County, GA in 1829. Nathan had died by 1850, leaving Martha Ann a widow with four children on the 1850 Murray County, GA census. By 1860 Martha Ann MEREDITH was living in McMinn County, Tennessee, where she lived the rest of her life and never remarried. > > Family lore has it that John McCutchie COOPER didn't want his family to know where he was, so he never mentioned them, except his sister Martha Ann. Does anyone else have a similar story in their COOPER family? Children left motherless at a young age, siblings separated? I know John M. and Martha Ann had parents, all I need is a clue! 3. Nancy, Thanks so much for thinking of me during your research! Yes, that's my John McCutchie Cooper's obituary. I do have a copy of the actual obit, which gave me more information than I'd ever had on John M. It was written by James M. Denson, brother to John M.'s wife Permelia Ann Denson, so I feel like he probably knew John M.'s history as well as anyone. As to its accuracy, I haven't been able to prove any of it except that John and Permelia married in Walton County, GA. Although I've been unable to find any connection to my Coopers, Lewis J. Cooper and a Blake Cooper keep surfacing in my research, so I'm keeping my eyes open! Again, thank you! It's so nice to know someone's out there and willing to help. Hope I can return the favor!
