    3. I have a Justin Morris Cooper, born 2-26-1848 in Steubenville, OH, and died 8-24, 1905 in Stafford County, Kansas where he was a County Commissioner. A Civil War Vet, he married Emma Massey. They had several children including Cyrus Cooper who lived in Elk City, OK and died in the 1940's; also a daughter Mary who moved to Colorado. Other siblings lived in Kansas. Sorry for the sketchy data, but hope someone recognizes this line. I have lots of info on the paternal upline. We have a few MASSEY connections too,(note Nelle in this passage-again, she's not one of ours.)I do have some early info if you are interested. Hope you recognize something here. Nancy Cooper miminbc@sprynet.com <ccp> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: Sheridan County Date: Sun, 2 Jul 2000 21:33:24 -0600 From: "Judy McGinnis" <judymcg@aculink.net> To:<miminbc@sprynet.com> Hello Nancy, The books I have are a two volume set entitled Sheridan County, Kansas, A History of Faith and Labor. I think they are still available should you decide there is enough in them to justify buying them. Volume 2 has one tiny mention of a Johnny Byers. The article is about agriculture and the changes in equipment, etc. in the last 100 years. A man named Bill Stewart was interviewed about his collection of farm equipment. On page 47, it has a paragraph about a tractor owned by Johnnie Byers. Also in volume 2 are the following Coopers: Angelia (Davis), Benjamin, Christa, Christie (Kerr), Cindy (Meier), Cody Wayne, Edith Mae (Robinson), Edward, Erwin, George (2), H.H., Isaac, Isaac Milton, Jaime Charis, Janet (Whitehair), Jesse Michael, John, Joseph, Laura A. (Mitchell), Lela Kathleen (Walden), Leslie, Mabel (Mitchell), Marie, Mark, Martha, Mary Ellen McEnyde, Mary Leah (Richardson), Max, Megan, Melanie Sue (Simon), Mike, Milton, Nelle (Massey), Norris, Patrick, Ralph, Ron, Rosa Augusta (Schumann), Rose (Meier), Rosemary, Roy, Ruby, Sonya Marie, Steve, Suzanne Marie (Carder), Theda, Thelma (Suffecool), Wallace, Willard. Volume 1 has Edith (Davidson) Byers. The story was submitted by her and was about the Walter Davidson family and the store where Walter (her father, I think) worked and that he later purchased. It does not mention the Byers family. There are many Coopers in this volume, as well. Many are the same as above, but there also are mentions of: Amy Joy, Charlotte, Curtis Lee, David, David Lee, Dean Edward, Delphia Marie (Morris), Ethel Rose (Robinson), Jane Catherine (Adkins), Janelle Sue (Karnes), Joseph Dale, Juanita (Moss), Kent Douglas, Kevin Ray, Lauretta (Suffecool), Leisha, Lloyd, Nelda (Kerr), Randall, Robert, Shirley (Miller), Ted Roy, Veronica (Frye), Walter Robert. In addition there is an article about Cooper School District #61 by Ruth Carley, a teacher in the dustbowl days of the 1930s. Several pictures of schools and classes are in this part of the book. The only Cooper named in a picture is Lloyd Cooper in the graduating class of 1914. Township maps have acreages marked by owner. I think these names are not in the index, since they are small and handwritten. If you care to know about them, I can look later and see if I can spot any Byers or Coopers. I hope this helps. If you need other information, just email me. I'll be happy to look for you. I was curious if your family had come from or gone to Iowa. My McGinnises had come from Adair County, Iowa and went back to the Adair/Madison/ Warren County area. I wondered whether other families moved with them. Happy hunting! Judy P.S. I checked my Logan County (next to Sheridan County) centennial history book, just in case. I did not see any story about Byers, Cooper or Lewis. There is no index, so it's hard to say if there are any mentioned in another story. Frank Cooper 1910-1983 is buried in the Oakley Cemetery. There are 3 Lewises, Kathrine 1897-1897, Maymie 1898-1898, and Royal 1856-1939. Grace Lowe Cooper 1898-1934; Lewis, baby son of J.I. and E. 1905-1905; and Fay N. Lewis 1870-1932 are buried in the Winona Cemetery.>>>>>

    3. Hi, Tom, These don't sound like my line but it is getting closer in location. My maiden name is Cooper and my family settled in Kansas and Okla. Some of them are still there. While I'm in this, I went to high school with a Tom Cooper, no relation, back in the late 40's. Good luck Jo in Kansas ----- Original Message ----- From: TomC <tcoop@prodigy.net> To: <COOPER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 15 July, 2000 12:11 PM Subject: Re: [COOPER-L] Kansas > I have a Justin Morris Cooper, born 2-26-1848 in Steubenville, OH, and died > 8-24, 1905 in Stafford County, Kansas where he was a County Commissioner.
