Barbara- For a moment I thought you and I were cousins, through Philip Henry COOPER. That was the name of my great-grandfather, but he was born in 1844 in Camden, NY. He graduated from the Naval Academy during the Civil War, and while he was stationed on a ship in Mobile Bay married Addie Lou Payne. Her family disowned her for marrying a Yankee, and she went to live with her inlaws, where she died in childbirth. Next COOPER married Sarah Lawrence STUART, and they had 2 sons - one of whom was my grandfather. Sarah died when my grandfather was 3, and he married a third time to Katherine FOOTE, and had 2 more children. We have found that Philip Henry COOPER's great-grandfather, Christian COOPER, came over from Germany in the Palitinate Migration, and the name was originally Kupfer or Kuper.
