Word was just received last week that in the March/April supplement to the DAR magazine Marcum Cooper has been declared a "NEW ANCESTOR". >> Cooper, Marcum: b. c 1752 NC d a 5- -1811 NC m (1) Sarah X CS NC >> (This would be Sarah Jackson Randolph, according to one source that said "from the Virginia Randolphs") This means that he has been proven as a Revolutionary War patriot, making descendants eligible for (Sons or) Daughters of the American Revolution membership. The cousin that sent me the information did not send the applicant's name, and I have not seen the magazine, but thought I would share the good news with you. This Marcum was the son of David and Elizabeth(presumed to be WILDER) Cooper. His brother Sion was also a veteran and received a government pension. My husband descends from another brother, John Cotton. We have yet to determine if he served. (The DAR web site www.dar.org offers free look-ups in the patriot index, so I have sent in a request.)
