I have recently discovered from another family researcher that one relative went to South Africa. I do not know where to start with research in South Africa, and am hoping someone can help. Emily COOPER b 5/5/1860 Barking Essex m (25/12/1882) Alfred YEOMAN b c1859 Isle of Wight, UK. Emily died 16/8/1944 1881 UK Census Alfred YEOMAN was Grocers Assistant, Broadway Grocer, Barking Essex. Emily was living with her father Joseph COOPER and nephew Henry COOPER at Axe St Elm Place, Barking where Joseph had the undertaking firm J Cooper & Son - which still exists and is owned by a family member. 1891 Census Alfred YEOMAN Head 31 - 1 Larman Villas, Barking Emily YEOMAN wife 30 Alfred YEOMAN son 7 William A YEOMAN brother 18 1901 Census No trace of Alfred's family could be found. Notes from a relative who recently died in Essex Emily & Alf had three children. Alfred went to South Africa and had Brian and a daughter. Elsie married a Will Stockley and had a son Jack who had twin boys, and Grace married a Wallie Laundon and had two sons. Laundon - Anthony, Brian, Clifford, Bertram Stockley Jack - Christopher, Geoffrey, Patrick I know this sound confusing but it is all I have. I do not know what years these notes refer to. I am hoping there is someone in South Africa who can help or is researching these names.     3. Related names: Anderson, Bayliss, Bronson, Cooper, Duke, Eddy, Gridley, Gohlmann, Hengel, Monzingo, Palmer, Peterson, Rankin, Sersen, Stock. My maternal grandfather's great grandparents were: Thomas F. Palmer (b NJ 1787-1864) and Rebeckah Snow (b. RI 1790-1854). They lived NY and six children there 1817-1829 and moved to OH & to IL where they died at Prairie Center, LaSalle Co., and are buried there. I know much of him, nothing of her. The oldest child was Lydia Hubbard Palmer (1817-1902). I have yet to figure out why her middle name was Hubbard. She marr. to Orrin Gridley (1811-1897) at Lodi OH 1839. Both d. & bur. Chapin, IA. They had four children 1840-49. 1st died dsp. Last three all lived: Henrietta (1843-1907) m Isaac Duke, 2 children: Cora m. Harry Rankin & had 3 ch; & Orrin Duke m. Olive Monzingo & had 3 ch.; Sarah (1847-1895) m. Wm. F. Cooper. She died Chapin, IA, and I think her parents had gone to that area vic Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, IA probably to be near their children. Lydia m. John Gohlmann; Lillian m. Edward H. Gridley. Shubael (1847-1925). He died at Clear Lake, IA. M. Lepha Eddy. 4 ch: Novella m. E.E. Studyvin, no ch; Eddie m. Hattie Bayliss, 5 ch; Orrin m. I am trying to trace all of the descendants of Thomas & Rebeckah, and so far I have found no one living today who is descended from their daughter Lydia Hubbard Palmer . . . is anyone out there? Both worked as school teachers in Queensland. In January 1900 they were transferred to Texas, Qld. In December 1901 while his wife was in Ipswich for the school holidays, he resigned from the education department "leaving Qld" He deserted Eliza and her 3 children and is to believed to have absconded with the assistant teacher who also resigned in Dec 1901 "leaving Qld". She was Violet Emily Alexander ALCORN.
