    1. Re: [COOPER] HENRY HARRISON COOPER, NY to CA, 1810?-1906
    2. Dear Barbara, Gini and all, This is really getting interesting! The Wynantskill baptisms certainly fit the family Gini describes, but Henry Harrison Cooper is not on the list. There is a gap into which he would fit, if born ca 1810, as indicated by his death certificate, 1890 voter registration, and 1880 census record. I haven't yet seen the death certificate, but shall write for it tomorrow and let the list know just what it says. Thanks to you all - I'll keep in touch. Rick PS Gini - I like your suggestion, and shall email it to my client. Although he is living in Switzerland, I think he is American, probably from San Francisco.

    2. Gini & Rick, I have a Phillip/Philip Henry Cooper born in NY in 1813. I've been trying to figure out if this same family could be his. Phillip was my gg-grandfather and was 1/4 Oneida Indian. Do either of you know of any Native American link in this family? The Wynantskill Reformed Church in Wynantskill, Rensselaeer Co., New York shows the following children for Henry Cooper & Elizabeth Shaver: Annatje Cooper b. 23 Sept 1799, bapt. 20 Oct 1799 Coenraed Cooper b. 2 Dec 1801, bapt. 1801 Christian Cooper b. 19 Dec 1803, bapt. 1803 Martin Cooper b. 16 Mar 1806, bapt. 26 May 1806 William Cooper b. 27 Jun 1808, bapt. 28 Aug 1808 Philip Henry Cooper 13 Feb 1813, bapt. 4 Apr 1813 Hiram Cooper b. 1 Mar 1815, bapt. 21 May 1815 Hiram Cooper b. 13 Apr 1818, bapt. 7 Jun 1818 My Phillip Henry Cooper married Elizabeth Boyles in 1850. They left NY between 1851 & 1854 with one or two children and settled in Jackson Township, Hardin Co., Ohio. By 1880, they had moved to Kansas and had 11 children. Do you think we have the same family? Barbara Kidder

    3. Rick- I am pretty sure that this Henry COOPER was my 2nd great-uncle. His father Henry (Hendrich) COOPER was born 17 July 1778 in Poestenkill, Renssalaer, NY, d 19 Mar 1854 Wampsville, Madison, NY. m Dec 1796 in East Greenbush (Dutch) Reformed Church, NY to Elizabeth SCHAEFFER/SHAVER. Had following children: HENRY COOPER d after 1898, m "Betsy", 2 children: Ed; Ada m. <?> ANDREWS Conrad COOPER m Sarah Elizabeth Knight, 10 children John COOPER 1797-1874 m Mariah Dann, 6 ch Hannah COOPER b1799, m John Thompson Chrisjohn or Christian COOPER b 1803 Martin COOPER 4 children William H. COOPER 1808-1880 m Mary Thompson, 4 ch. Philip COOPER Hiram Henry COOPER 1819-1883 m Delia Ann MURDOCK, 6 ch - incl my great grandfather Hiram Henry was born in Troy, NY, and I don't think his parents wandered far from that area, so I suspect the others were born there too. Some of of the children, including Henry, lived/worked in the Cleveland area. Hope this is the Henry you are looking for! Would be happy to exchange more information with you. He was listed as H.H. Cooper in the 1850 census in Fayette, Seneca Co., NY; as Henry H. Cooper in the 1860 census of San Francisco and in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Petaluma, CA. In 1890, he registered to vote in Petaluma as Henry Harrison Cooper. All these records agree that he was born in NY; the indicated birth years vary from 1810 to 1816. 1. MILTON CAPPS FAMILY
    2. jomorgan
    3. FROM PIONEER TIMES APRIL 1987 VOL 11, NO 2. A quarterly publication of Mid-Missouri. This article was sent in by Osal Bennett Capps & Juanita Magee Capps. Retyped here by me, Joanne Scobee Morgan, not related to any of these people. Since this publication is nearly 20 years old, these people may or may not be still living at the same place. MILTON CAPPS FAMILY The Capps in Stoddard County, MO, as we know them, originated on the VA-NC line. A Capps family tradition, that one male in every generation should be named "Bennett" was carried down to Robert Osal Capps, son of Osal Bennett and Juanita MAGEE Capps. After Osal and "Nita" had researched genealogy for twenty years, (as do Bob and his wife, Donna), Osal finally found the wills of both Richard and Ann Bennett, his wife - AND the beginning of the tradition! Richard and Ann Bennett's daughter, Amy, married John Capps. John was likely "Bennett", as has most generations since, including Bob and Donna DUNCAN Capps. Twins were born to Bob and Donna on 10 Dec 1960 in Big Spring, TX, as their second and third children. The first born twin became Bennett Seth Capps, followed two minutes later by Kenneth Scott - (Bennett after the tradition and grandfather, Osal Bennett; and Scott after his maternal grandfather, Earl Scott Duncan.). Karen Sue Capps was born to Bob and Donna on 21 April 1959, in Houston, TX. Engineers were transferred frequently! Karen married 15 Aug 1981, San Angelo, TX., to Billy John ASHLEY, son of Robert and Betty TALBOT Ashley. Karen and Bills daughter Erin Michele (1 July 1986) was born in a Longview, TX Hospital, as a resident of Carthage, TX - now of Lindale, TX. John and Amy BENNETT Capps children were John, Jr.; Matthew; Richard; Mark; Bennett; Patty; Amy; Betsey; Nancy; Christian; and Charity. When John died in 1804 at 66, part of his estate was "already in Guilford Co., NC", as shown in his will. The Capps westward movement had already begun! Witnesses to John's will were Joshua and Hillary Capps. Joshua's will lists sons: Hillary and Francis and two daughters. Joshua was the son of Francis Capps, apparently the first Capps in Warren Co., NC. Richard and Ann Bennett's children were Christian, who married Absolom LANGSTRON; Sarah, who married Solomon LANGSTRON; Richard; Mark, who married Jemmah H. ; William; Moses; Martha; James; Ann; and Amy. Richard Bennett, Sr. died in 1764 in Bute Co., NC and Ann Bennett died in 1779. The first known Bennett Capps (1794 Guilford Co., NC- c1840 TN), a wagon maker, was married in Guilford Co., NC on 22 Dec 1824, to Elizabeth "Betsey" NOBLIN. Bennett Capps and Smith Capps had signed the marriage bond. Bennett and "Betsey's" known children, all born in NC, were Martha; Milton J.; Iverson; Manerva Ann; Matilda; and Lavina - no Bennett that we could find- until Milton J. (27 June 1827 NC-16 Nov 1895 Stoddard Co., MO - Gravel Hill), married Martha Susan TURNER (12 Nov 1828 NC - 19 Mar 1900, Gravel Hill), on June 1, 1845 and named their first child Bennett M. (5 Dec 1848 Weakley Co., TN - 20 Jan 1900 Stoddard Co., MO). Betsey's brothers and sisters, likewise orphans of William NOBLIN, were William H.; Lindsey; Nancy; Lucy; Harriet; and Mary, with Betsey probably the youngest (1810 NC-6 Jan 1857 Weakley Co., TN). Bennett and Betsey moved their family to West Tennessee (Weakley Co.) in 1839, where Bennett and Betsey both died - she in 1857. They had continued the westward movement! And farming became the family's livlihood - though wagons were in great demand, too. Daughter, Martha (1825 NC) married William BYARS in Weakley Co. 15 July 1846. Iverson, (1832 NC) married Eliza J. SMITH on 8 Dec 1870 in that county. Manerva "Ann" (1834 NC) was not yet married in 1850; Matilda (1830) had already married Alexander BYARS before 1850; and Vina (1836 NC) was assigned a guardian when her mother died in 1857. Milton and Martha were destined to rear their family in Stoddard County, MO. Martha Susan TURNER Capps was the daughter of John and Polly TURNER, natives of NC who brought her to West Tennessee as a young girl. After her marriage to Milton in 1845, Weakley co., TN, they remained in TN, farming until 1859. There Bennett M. (5 Dec 1848 TN - 20 Jan 1900 MO); Almus (3 June 1851 TN - 5 Dec 1887 MO); Samantha C. (d. at 13); Mary Elizabeth (14 Sept 1855 TN - 1 Jan 1905 MO); and Riley Smith (28 Mar 1858 TN - 27 Nov 1916 MO) were born. In 1859 they sold their farm in TN and moved to Greene Co., AR. John Wesley Capps was born in AR. They did not like AR and started back to TN through MO., but liked Stoddard County and it became their home. There the following children were born; Martha Ann; Harriet Penina; and William Henry. They settled north of Aquilla on a farm bordering the Castor River, where Almus contracted pneumonia and died while helping his brother, Bennett reroof his house during a school vacation. Mary Elizabeth first married 1 Jan 1878, Thos. J. PALMER and second, Charles STULL. Riley Smith married 4 Jan 1880 MO., Mary Eler COOPER, daughter of Jeptha Cooper and counts Clara Blanche CAPPS MAGEE as a granddaughter, through his son William Roley Capps. John Wesley (1863 AR - Apr 1905 MO), married 24 Feb 1884 MO. Pantha Elizabeth MOORE. Martha Ann (22 Mar 1865 MO - 15 Oct 1900 MO) first marred 14 Feb 1884 John M. DENNY, and had Alfred (10 Mar 1890-18 Jun 1966 MO) who married Veda WHITLEDGE, 5 NOV 1913; Lulu, married a BAUER and had one son. Robert married and had a family. Martha married second, a STALCUP, and later, a COLEMAN. Harriet Penina was the eighth child and married a MILLER, a HENDERSON, and a BROCK. William Henry married Cora (EATON) BENTREL, and they had Reuben and Hasel Ca! pps Baker. Bennett first married Catherine MEEKS, who died in childbirth having Angenette (1874-1890). He next married 13 Nov 1881, Susan Emma PATTERSON (8 Dec 1862, Gibson Co., TN - 24 Apr 1916 Stoddard Co., MO), the daughter of John Frank PATTERSON and Manerva A. DAVIS. His parents were John Taylor Howard (1854 - 1883) and Mary Jane Magee, daughter of Hugh and Ida Prudence BARHAM Magee. Florence and Harmon Howard's children were, 1. I have been using it for months now and have had excellent luck. Nearly all my people had already been transcribed and they aren't even done with Ontario yet. I particularly liked being able to point out errors or other problems. One thing that I think needs to be said for places like this and ancestry is that if you can prove you are right, they will make changes in their work. It can take a while, but in August, I emailed ancestry about errors I was seeing in about a dozen of their transcriptions using the methods provided and my reasoning or in one case another's transcription of the same thing which was the correct transcription. In each and every case I pointed out why I thought I was right, like the dots for i's that were not transcribed as such. In the last week I have been getting emails from them and in everyone they have made the changes in the transcriptions. So far I have gotten 6 of the 12 back, all accepting my proofs and making the changes. So although changes in enumerator errors cannot be made, transcription errors can and will be made if they are pointed out and others agree with your reasons for thinking as you do. 3. I have an Ashley Cooper who has disappeared too. No, he's not the Earl of Shaftesbury. He disappeared (died) sometime in 1840 in Southern Ontario. His father before him was Ashley Cooper also. Don't I wish I knew where they came from and if there is any connection to the Anthony Ashley Coopers which I doubt. Ruth in California where it was in the 70s today, San Diego weather. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary W. 3. Butch, According to today's "Google" News search: Sussex Police officals were to fly to Southern France on 12/13 to give the police there the latest information they had gathered that might help with the investigation. The French Police will remain in charge of the investigation.
