    1. [COOPER] Coopers of McNairy, TN
    2. Hello, I am looking for the families of Cooper that was in McNairy, TN. I feel lead to beleive our William D. Cooper is related to these Cooper lines of McNairy Co., TN. This man married Susan T. Bishop and had one children by the name of John James Cooper who would have been named after both grandfathers. John Bishop and James Cooper. The name has been past on to my Father James Cooper too as first and middle names. So if anyone is of this line please share. I did find a William Cooper on the same Census of 1840 with James Cooper who would have been the right age of for William father. Our line of Cooper traveled with the Bishop families to Hempstead Co., Arksansas and Susan was a widow by 1850. We are looking for the grave of William or a death date. Rose

    3. My late husband had a Cooper line which started in Maryland and migrated to Tennessee. The family story is (but not proven) that the father of John Cooper born Oct. 7, 1785 was an English sailor who jumped ship when it came to Maryland. Oct. 7, 1785 at Endicott's Mill, Maryland and died July 27, 1854 in Campbell CO, Tennessee. He married Esther (or Hester) Sage on Sept. 17, 1817 in Grayson County, Virginia. Their children were: Ephraem b. 1817, Mahulda b. June 10, 1819, Joseph A. b. Nov. 25, 1823, Sylvester b. June 28, 1826, Melinda b. Sept. 14, 1827, William Pascal b. Mar 11, 1829, Fountain b. William Pascal Cooper was born March 11, 1829 in Campbell CO, TN, died August 15, 1903 in Campbell CO, TN and married Sarah Hutson on June 19, 1851 in Campbell CO, TN. Their children were Thomas b. 1. Re: [COOPER] COOPER Family Photograph
    2. Hi Ed I found the first reference of the Cooper-Cowles marriage in a book, "The Genealogy of the Cowles Families in America", by Colonel Calvin Duvall Cowles (pronounced Kolz), U.S. Army Retired; published in 1929. Quote from the book: Sophia b. 1819, d. 1893; m. 1835 _____ Cooper, who d. about 1868. I have been unable to find further information re: the marriage but it must be refer enced in some court record book or church in or near Pultneyville. Living in Oregon and unable to afford a trip to the area makes research there a little difficult. My great grandfather, Hulbert DeWitt Cooper was their first child and was b in 1836 in PA. He went by DeWitt H. and I didn't find his true name until locating his mother's land records after her death in E. Oregon, Baker Co. Next the family, 1840 census, is in Frankfort, KY where James FitzJames was born in 1839. 1850 census, Washington, Washington co., Iowa, shows N.P. Cooper, Wife Sophia, Ch. DeWitt and James and two daughters Florence Elizabeth and Geneva Jane. N.P. is very active in the community, especially in re: to the schools. Nathaniel was the School Funds Commissioner for the County of Washington, State of Iowa and a merchant. In the court records he is sometimes listed as N.P., other times as Nathaniel P. Sophia is also mentioned in the records as "wife". They had Helen Mary, Theodore Henry, and Edmonia Lincoln by 1861. Nathaniel went to see Pike's Peak about 1860/61 (after the census where they were still in Iowa). It was still Indian Territory but he brought his family out to Ft. Collins, CO where they farmed for the next ten years until his death. He was involved in starting schools - education apparently mattered greatly to him. James FJ became a teacher (never married). A year or so after N.P.'s death in 1970 James, Sophia, Edmonia and a nephew, Russell Ames, son of another sister who died in childbirth came to Oregon, setteling in Jackson Co. About 1883 they moved on to Baker Co. where Sophia made a land purchase of 160 acres (BLM). DeWitt also relocated to Jackson Co. from CO early 1870's then on to Baker Co when his mother and brother did. My grandfather was his only son out of 3 children, Guy Colin Scott Cooper (Melissa Scott b. Iowa was his mother, d in childbirth around 1879). My dad, Maurice DeWitt Cooper was b in 1804 in Baker City, Baker Co., OR but the family moved to Portland, OR in 1907. Dad married and I was b in Portland. This is basically what I know of my family. My older brother, Maurice Guy Cooper gave his DNA for the DNA FamilyTree project but we have not had any matches so far. We do know from the 1790 census records that there were at least 2 Cooper's in the vacinity of Pultneyville, Peter and one whose name doesn't pop right into my mind. We also think Nathaniel had a brother Benjamin as there was mention of him in a history of Ft. Collins, visiting the family in Ft. Collins around the time of the Civil War as well as some correspondence to and from Nathaniel and Benjamin. If you can shed any light on Nathaniel's parentage I would be most grateful. Carroll Cooper Summers Salem, Oregon Carroll Cooper Summers, wrote: >My sister and I have searched for years trying to find the parentage of our >gr grandfather, Nathaniel P. Cooper (we think the P stands for Parda or >Pardee but are not sure). Nathaniel was b somewhere in NY about 1806, d. >Apr. >1870 Ft. Collins, CO.. We think he was probably b. near Pultneyville as that >is where he married in 1835 to Sophia Cowles. They had 7 children. The mention of Pultneyville got my attention. Some of my Coopers lived there and in the surrounding area of Wayne County, New York in the 19th century. Can I ask you how you found the information that the husband of Sophia Cowles was a NATHANIEL P. COOPER? What I know of my Coopers is that GRIFFITH MORGAN COOPER born 1791 Haddonfield, NJ, son of Capt. JAMES B. COOPER & Rebecca MORGAN. These Coopers were originally Quakers but possibly because the father James B. Cooper served in the Continental Army during the Revolution and later in the U.S. Navy he was more than likely dismissed from being a member of the Society of Friends. However, Griffith Morgan Cooper became a Quaker later in life and moved to the Town of Williamson, Wayne County sometime after marrying ELIZABETH HODGSON in 1812. G.M. Cooper's brother, ALEXANDER HAMILTON COOPER b. 1812 married REBECCA E........... moved to Port Gibson, Ontario Co., NY and later to the Town of Williamson where he is buried. I think that Capt. James B. Cooper had about eleven children but I can only account for five of them at the moment. There is another brother, Captain BENJAMIN COOPER b. 1793 who marrried ELIZABETH HICKS. They lived on Hicks Street, Brooklyn, New York. My ggg-grandfather, JAMES MORGAN COOPER, b.1799 was a gunner in the US Navy, died in 1868 and is buried in New York Bay Cemetery, NJ. Since reading your message, I have tried to find a Nathaniel Cooper in Wayne County but have been unable to do so. Just thought that I would let you know of other Coopers in that area around the time period that you are interested in. - Ed ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [COOPER] KY Charging - LDS free
    2. Donna Cuzze
    3. KENTUCKY TO CHARGE FOR PUBLIC GEN RECORDS: ... as of June 25th 2007 there will be no more genealogy records stored at the Fleming County court house, KY. They are being removed by Local Government and taken to another place stored in a warehouse, away from public access. This means land Deeds, tax records will be removed. Their intent is to move the records to a central location and charge heavy dollars for researching your families history. Other states will probably follow suit. In the wake of this, LDS is making their genealogy records FREE : May 14, 2007 FamilySearch to Provide Access to World's Genealogical Records This is perhaps the most important genealogy announcement of the past few years. The following announcement was written by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: FamilySearch Unveils Program to Increase Access to World's Genealogical Records Tidal Wave of Online Databases Will Result SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-FamilySearch announced today its Records Access program to increase public access to massive genealogy collections worldwide. For the first time ever, FamilySearch will provide free services to archives and other records custodians who wish to digitize, index, publish, and preserve their collections. The program expands FamiliySearch's previously announced decision to digitize and provide online access to over 2 million rolls of copyrighted microfilm preserved in the Granite Mountain Records Vault. A key component of the program allows FamilySearch and archives to team with genealogy websites to provide unprecedented access to microfilm in the vault. The combined results ensure a flood of new record indexes and images online at www.FamilySearch.org and affiliated websites. The plan combines the assets and experience of the Genealogical Society of Utah with the state-of-the-art technology resources of FamilySearch-all under the single brand name of FamilySearch. The Records Access program allows records custodians to publish their data online by themselves or with the assistance of FamilySearch or affiliate genealogical websites and historical societies. "Records custodians worldwide are experiencing growing pressure to provide access to their records online while maintaining control and ownership. At the same time, websites that provide digitizing and publishing services are struggling with the staggering costs," said Wayne Metcalfe, director of Records Services for FamilySearch. "The new Record Access program takes advantage of FamilySearch's resources and creates an economical and effective forum where record custodians and genealogical websites can work together to accomplish their respective objectives," added Metcalfe. Working with the records custodians, FamilySearch can leverage its extensive microfilm and growing digital image collection to create digital images for affiliate genealogical websites at a fraction of the cost. The affiliate genealogy organization will create indices of the digital images and then publish the images and the indices on its own website, the archive's website, or a jointly published site. A copy of the index will also be made available for free on the popular FamilySearch website, which will help drive traffic to record images on the custodians' or affiliates' sites. Full, free access to both the indices and images will be provided to family history centers, FamilySearch managed facilities, and the archives. If the record custodian seeks revenue to sustain operations, a small fee may be required to access images outside FamilySearch managed facilities or the archive. For archives and heritage societies, the new program benefits include: a.. Digitally capture, preserve, and publish records online b.. Increase access to records while maintaining control and ownership c.. Increase patronage and business viability d.. Over 100 years of archival and publishing experience For genealogy websites, the new program helps them: · Benefit from the knowledge and relationships of FamilySearch with the archival community worldwide · Significantly lower costs associated with acquiring, preserving, or providing access to data · Increase business viability and website traffic · Leverage an open platform that develops value-added services around FamilySearch, the world's largest repository of genealogical data. Under the program, FamilySearch will also provide tools and assistance to records custodians who want to publish parts of their collection using state-of-the-art digital cameras, software, and web-based applications. The archive can work with an affiliate, historical society, or FamilySearch to index the images or host a website for the records custodian. The index of the record collection will be available for free on FamilySearch, and the records custodian's site will provide access to the images for free or a fee depending on the needs of the archive and those assisting in the digitization. One example of the tools FamilySearch can provide is FamilySearch Indexing, a web-based application that engages tens of thousands of volunteers worldwide to create searchable indexes linked to the digital images created by FamilySearch. "Through mere word-of-mouth promotions, literally tens of thousands of volunteers are already joining this effort to index the world's records by registering at FamilySearchIndexing.org and donating a few minutes a week online to the effort. Over 100,000 volunteers are expected to enlist in the initiative by year end with the numbers increasing as more projects-particularly international projects-are added," said Paul Nauta, manager of Public Affairs for FamilySearch. FamilySearch will announce the first collaborative projects of its new Records Access program during the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Convention in Richmond, Virginia, the week of May 14, 2007. Many more project announcements are expected in the following months. Record custodians and archives that would like additional information regarding the FamilySearch Records Services can contact Wayne Metcalfe (metcalfewj@gensocietyofutah.org) and genealogy web service providers should contact Dave Harding (hardingdp@ldschurch.org). FamilySearch (historically known as the Genealogical Society of Utah) is a nonprofit organization sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. FamilySearch maintains the world's largest repository of genealogical resources accessed through www.FamilySearch.org, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and over 4,500 family history centers in 70 countries. - Ed
