The long-awaited papers arrived today. NOT the FRY will; I'm still waiting for that. But Peter KIEFFER's will with his signature. Although the signature on the passenger list and the signature on the will are about 40 years apart, I'm reasonably certain that they were written by the same man. In fact, I'm confident enough to hire a German genealogist for a hundred dollars. I have NO idea what kind of records are available. I don't know if German immigration papers would show his parents' names or not, but I surely hope so. Anyway, it "looks like" he was the immigrant!!! Kinda exciting, isn't it??!!! The book that contains this information reads: "At the Courthouse of Philadelphia, September 11th, 1738. Present The Honourable George Thomas, Esqr, Lt Gov....The Palatines whose Names are underwritten, imported in the Ship Robert and Alice, of Dublin, Walter Goodman, Comr, from Rotterdam, but last from Dover in England, did this day take and subscribe the Oaths to the Government." Please know that I will certainly advise you of anything new that comes from this research. :)
It may not apply but Captain Thoma Cooper, b. 1735 Frederick Co., Va., Died 13 Jan/Feb 1796 Greene Co., Georgia. Married Sarah "Sallie" Anthony 6 Feb 1762 Bedford Co., Va. Sarah "Sallie" Anthony was the daughter of Joseph Anthony and Elizabeth Clark. Joseph Anthony, Sr. was the son of Mark Anthony and Isabella Hart. Could that be where the Mark Anthony Cooper came from? Capt. Thomas Cooper and his wife had 9 children. Joseph Anthony and his wife had 16.Their 13 child, Mark II b. 8 Oct 1767. Married Sarah Tate (or Nancy) THE HILLS OF WILKES CO. GEORGIA (2 Volumes) Published by Heritage Papers, Danielsville, Georgia 30633 Cop[yright 1987, Mary B. Warren. I ran across this in my forestry work for the State of Florida, thought someone might be interested. In Florida there is the Fort Cooper State Park and the following information is copied from the state's brochure about the park. ************* The park is named for Maj. Mark Anthony Cooper, commander of five companies of the First Georgia Battalion of Volunteers during the Second Seminole War. In April 1836, Cooper's duty was to protect the sick and wounded left behind during Gen. Winfield Scott's long march to present-day Tampa. For 16 days, Cooper and about 380 men watched and waited, drinking from the waters of the lake and scanning the woods that rimmed its eastern shore. There were several skirmishes with the Seminoles, but the volunteers held their own. On April 18, Scott returned with supplies and reinforcements, leading the men of Fort Cooper from their frontier sanctuary into new battles. ************ If you want a copy of the brochure contact Fort Cooper State Park 3100 South Old Floral City Road Inverness, Florida 32650 Happy hunting! (Yes, I'm STILL looking for my Cornelius Cooper!) Ty Alexander

I don't have my notes handy, but I seem to recall that Mark Anthony Cooper was somewhat of a notable person in Putnam Co GA. Maybe that's why your Banister Cochran named his son after him? If I can find my notes I'll try to post more about Mark A. Cooper. Sorry, I don't have any more on the Cochran family. Wish I could help! Helen Cooper & William Duguid of Aberdeenshire, Scotland came to America in 1774, maybe to Argyle, but then to Pattersonville, Schenectady Co., NY! Their descendant Alexander Duguid moved to Sterling, NY & married a Cooper as well as a son married another Cooper? Duguids also moved to Steuben Co., IN where our Coopers came also? [Aberdeenshire is next to Perth?] [CRC 8/04/99-coophudn.txt] Lineages for Dutch Cooper from Dutchess Co. to Cayuga Co., NY and English Coopers from Albany to Cayuga Co. in my records but not in real depth. Coopers moved from Monmouth Co., NJ to Wayne Co., NY, just west of Cayuga co., NY. Also I comment there is great danger in trying to use old manuscripts, IGI posted by Mormons vs. actual data captured from original documents. The vulnerability of the Ancestral File without proof and the above with out proof is very dangerous. Too many people wanted their lineages to happen how they thought rather than by facts proved. Thus census data so important. More later on this! I would like to find more information about this family and would love to hear from anyone who may be related. I would also appreciate any help on how to find more information as I am a first time DC researcher. Thanks, Teri in MD GenFindem@aol.com ------- End of forwarded message -------
There is tons of information on this at the Jefferson list, all that the DNA proves is that some male Jefferson was the ancestor of one Hemings child, you can search the Jefferson-L archives for much, much more Sandy in Fla
I caught the last part of the program too--and the COOPERS were from the jefferson-hemmings family. The video is available and there are web sites you can ask and check on the program data..I think the pbs.org--or aol.keyword will get you to the stuff. They mentioned that all the data they used on the program was on line. They also mentioned there were several web sites. I did not write them down. Others may have and will send? good luck--let us know what you find out? judy grimes
Last night on 5/2 PBS in Houston the Frontline feature was the Thomas Jefferson-Sally Hemmings Story. I only caught the last few minutes which included a lady whose COOPER family was living as white, that had discovered other members of the COOPER family that lived as black. I don't know if they were saying there was a tie from COOPER to Sally Hemmings or if this COOPER family was just an example of how this has happened in the United States. Does anyone know anything further on these COOPER relatives or a COOPER-JEFFERSON/HEMMINGS connection?

Both Judah and alice are buried in the PADDOCK Family Cemetery, Denins. I believe you will find the PADDOCK and COOPER family intermingled. Thomas COOPER b. ca 1617, England. Katrina in Oregon
