    1. Re: [COOPER-L] COOPER BREAKTHROUGH! CADER'S ESTATE-David, etc.-New info
    2. Dear Nancy, Barbra and Katrina, I do have a lot of info that I have collected and wish that I had time to sit down and investigate it all to the "N" th degree. In a perfect world, I would put all of us around a big conference table with our information and lay it out, so that we might be able to determine these Cooper lines and their relationships to each other. I wish so much that I could do something like that. So many times, I know that I could possibly shed light in some area's of people's conversations but just do not have time to do the research into what I have collected.. I am 49 years old with an extremely time consuming job, married to a beautiful wife, 15 years my junior and we have a four year old "Cooper" Descendant that is much more demanding than any of my life's remaining aspects could ever be.." My only marriage by the way". A late bloomer! Please stay on me, and as I find time I will try to tie some of your thoughts and facts together with mine. I am continuously saving many of the more pertinent post that could shed light on the below mentioned Cooper relationships. Please do not get upset if any request are interupted or take a while. God, family and profession must come first. All I ask is that you occasionally remind me. I know I have told people in the past that I would get back to them and have'nt. Possibly some of you. This disturb's me probably more than it does those that I do not get back too.I am aware of the possible Cypert connection, I have a tree for James Fenimore Cooper, I feel there is a somewhat closer relationship to the two Cooper lines in Union Cty SC, at least through marriage if nothing else. Am interested in the entire Warwickshire Cooper Connection to my line and other's. The Monroe County, Miss and Itwambia County, Miss connections. Hall Cty Ga and FL? connections among possible Tenn connections. There is definitly a Hoover connection out there also. Encourage any Cooper descendant to study thoroughly the Henshaw Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy. Its not easy but extremely informative on several Cooper lines that might or might not be related. You will need a scratch pad as you follow their movements from meeting place to meeting place (State to State etc). Also plan on putting my Cooper line on My.Family .Com in the near future or possibly another outlet. Any suggestions? Have to go. Have one day off between now and June 19th. That's our U S Military for ya. When I retire I will devote all of my time to this, my wife and my little Cooper boy! Take Care, Danny Cooper Byrd

    1. [COOPER-L] Emund Blount COOPER & Mary LESTER
    2. Will Cooper
    3. Hello Coopers, et al, I'm just back from a month's trip that included research in TN and NC. My ggg grandfather, Edmund Blount COOPER first appears (or my first record of him) as a single head of household, age 16-26 in the 1790 census of Bertie Co. NC. He married Jinette PHILLAW in Bertie Co in 1799 and appears in the 1800 census of Bertie Co with a white female his age category, presumably Jinette, his new wife and an older white female, (almost certainly Jinette mother), and 9 slaves. In 1803 he begins to appear in numerous Wake and Granville County records and about 1826 moves from Wake County to Henry County Tennessee. He died in Henry County TN in 1845 leaving a lengthy will and a very substantial estate. He names the following children in the will: Whitmel H. Cooper, Sarah Alston Cooper Tharpe, Mary Cooper Cooney, E.B. Cooper, Jr., Jesse Christmas Cooper, John W. Cooper and Jane Elinor Cooper Harris. >From court records and wills I discovered while in NC, it is clear that his wife Jinette's mother was Mary ?? PHILLAW PIERCE, wife of John PIERCE who left her and her daughter, Jinette PHILLAW, his step daughter, a comfortable estate. Based on other references in the wills, I am conjecturing that Mary PHILLAW PIERCE's maiden name was LESTER, i.e. Mary LESTER. If anyone on the list can add anything about Mary LESTER or Blount COOPER'S parents I will be most appreciative. Otherwise I am left with the assumption, growing stronger all the time, that Blount COOPER was conceived by a flash of lightning, and suddenly appeared, full grown, in Bertie Co. in1790. 2. Hi, June. I had Familytreemaker 6.0 and tried it for a time; entered a lot of family under Ancestry.com's free family tree online; bought Sierra Generations Deluxe program, but have not stuck with any one program. We have a Hewlitt Packard 600 3-in-1 printer that can scan, and can open most files sent with our file opener program. I'm not sure about how to use any of the above programs to send files directly to the program. So, do you think you're a distant relation? You must recognize my Jesse L. Cooper. Thank you for anything you can send. I have a pretty good line of > facts on the William and Lydia bunch if I can help. Maybe somewhere the whole > bunch is connected. Who knows? Hi Danny, Yes, this was one that was somewhat speculative to me too. And I have followed your posts and read your line from James Fennimore(in fact, have even referred some others to it.) So I have been keeping an eye on it, "just in case", as we say. Since you are from Jacob's line, I wondered at Emma's pairing of "Lydia Clark" as Jacob's wife on Wm.'s FGS. That is just a little too "coincidental", with William's wife being "Lidy", a more obvious than some nickname for Lydia. Who do you have for Jacob's wife? William was apparently speculative to her too, as she has a blank space on David's first child, with a notation "No William", but then she begins another one for William. I'm not entirely sure at this point where she got the other names, but that is not to make light of her work. She is a 30 yr. +- veteran of genealogical research, and a DAR member herself, and does include original documents for her more certain(i.e. recent) lines. Anyway, do you agree with his children as Jacob; Wm., Jr m. Mary HUNTER; Stacy m. Tabitha PIERSON(sp?); Nathan; Samuel; Jeremiah; Jonathan; David; Abraham; Elizabeth m.___ BUNTING; Wortham; Martha m. _WHELAS; Joseph Hartzfield? I also have some more Wm.s and Davids. More to keep straight. (;-) I do appreciate your input, and value your insight. Nancy

    1. Re: [COOPER-L] COOPER BREAKTHROUGH! CADER'S ESTATE-David, etc.-New info
    2. Danny, I read you e-mail with great interest! I have been looking for two years for the parents of my third great grandfather, Stephen Cooper, who was born about 1797 in North or South Carolina. This was according to the census in Wayne County, Tennessee. At his property settlement after his death, they called him Joseph, but it may have been a mistake because his eldest son was Joseph. He, himself, seems to have always gone by Stephen. He had a relative or close associate named Samuel Cooper, who I believe was his brother, or possibly a first cousin. They are found in Lauderdale County, Alabama, Wayne and Hardin Counties, Tennessee together. Something that gets me wondering about these families is the Cypert connection. I have seen them associated with the Coopers through several generations, and at least three states. Lawrence Scypeart died in Wayne County, Tennessee, and his kids are married into Samuel Cooper's line, which migrated to Arkansas. Old Lawrence came into Wayne County from Georgia, I think, living there with that line of Coopers that were descended from William and Lydia. They are the ones that migrated to Florida. Nate White had put out that gedcom that said that a Stephen Cooper was born to Joseph and Elizabeth of that line, in 1793, in Union County, South Carolina. Some of the people on Cooper One List have protested that finding, and apparently Nate has not defended it. Not sure where he got it. Anyhow, I would love to know your lineage. I always enjoy your input. Seems like you might be a relative of mine. Not sure of course. Barbara Cooper McGee

    1. Re: [COOPER-L] COOPER BREAKTHROUGH! CADER'S ESTATE-David, etc.-New info
    2. Dear Nancy, I believe that Emma Shepherd's information requires more research as to its accuracy in at least one line of descendants she claims as David's. Specifically "William, b VA m.Lidy CLARK d.aft 1784 will dated 1775 Spartenburg, SC." The William Cooper that married Lydia (Lidy) Clark migrated to Union County SC from Bucks County PA where he received a land grant in 1771 which is on file in Union County. Lydia Clark was also born in 1732, Buck's County, PA and died in Padgett's Creek, Union County SC in 1810. I have a copy of Williams will dated 1775. William, born 1729 in probably NJ was the son of Jonathan Cooper 1675-1769 and Sarah Hibbs 1692-1769. Jonathan came to New Jersey in 1699 with his father William 1649-1709 of Low Ellington, Yorkshire England. William and Lydia had eleven children, several of which were born in Bucks County, PA. These Cooper's were originally Quakers and are fairly well documented in Hinshaws Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy as well as the Union County (SC) Heritage Book printed in 1981. William and Lidy had a son named David also. 1769-1839. He married Charity Powell. There were two Cooper lines living in the Union County, Spartenburg area during this time period. Also at least three Williams and two David's. Several of the two seperate lines lived remarkably close to each other at times which has caused some confusion for many people. I call them seperate lines because I nor any of the people I have conversed with over the last few years have been able to connect them. I do show a David Cooper married to an Elizabeth Wilder. I have not connected them to the William and Lidy Clark line. I am a fifth great grandson of William and Lidy through their son Jacob. I have his will also. One interesting note though. Several of Jacobs son's migrated with many other SC area people to Marion County, Alabama and it's neighboring county's, "Monroe County" and Itawmbia County Mississippi. Three that are verified are Amos, Alston and Jonathan. (Younger than your John). Another interesting note is the Hibbs connection. Sarah Hibbs neice married a James Cooper, also a different line of Coopers in NJ. They were Quakers from "Warwickshire" England. This line of Coopers gave us the American Author, James Fenimore Cooper. Hope you were able to follow all of this. I have a pretty good line of facts on the William and Lydia bunch if I can help. Maybe somewhere the whole bunch is connected. Who knows? Danny Cooper Byrd

    1. [COOPER-L] COOPER, David & Elizabeth
    2. David and Elizabeth WILDER COOPER both died at their home on Thickety Creek, currently in the Gaffney, SC, area. Spartanburg Co., SC, at one time claimed the Gaffney area, but at another time it was in Cherokee Co., and even earlier than this was listed as a part of Williamsburg Co., which is actually now in the Lowstate area of SC. This kind of "flexibility" in county lines often make it difficult to find records. My understanding is that Elizabeth's will is in Williamsburg while her husband David's is in Spartanburg Co., SC. I hope this has actually helped someone a bit and not just made matters more confused. I look forward to hearing more on this couple. They are my GGGGGG-G'parents through both their son Sion COOPER and their daughter Rahab COOPER FOWLER. I would love to know Sion COOPER's wife's name. Was it Vashti? I certainly don't know everything about SC but I've lived all over it for my whole 50+ yrs. and am a native of Pickens Co., SC. If I can help anyone else let me know. Between my husband's lines and mine we pretty much cover the state. Godspeed... Dolores Miller Pringle Myrtle Beach, SC
