Tom, Looking through my archived e-mail. Thought I'd send you this one. Danny Cooper Byrd Subj: Hidden Cooper Family Information!! Date: 99-05-28 13:41:11 EDT From: tigerd3@home.com (Carroll Smith) To: Dbyrd000@aol.com Dear Danny: Things have been quiet on my Cooper digs! Although I have been through all the Cooper queries on GenForum quite carefully. While surfing, I went to some surnames of families into which a number of my Smith (and other)relatives (female) married-and I have had fantistice results. Some finds were such that I never expected to find the family I had searched for so long. Relative to the subject above, I have discovered some important information on the "Baby Mary" situation. Last night while looking at a World Family Tree print out of "William Cowper," (World Family Tree Volume #1--Pedigree #4341, I noticed the name of Hugh Ely and his wife, Sarah Balderson, as one of the entries in which Sarah was listed as the daughter of Hannah Cooper (1719-1778) and John Balderson, III, abt (1702-1778). Hannah Cooper, you may recall, is the daughter of Jonothan Cooper and Sarah Hibbs and is a sister to our William Cooper, Sr. who came to Union Co. SC. THIS MAKES SARAH BALDERSON (WIFE OF HUGH ELY) A FIRST COUSIN OF OUR JACOB COOPER. IF Jacob Cooper married MARY, AND IF MARY IS the daughter of Sarah and Hugh Ely, THEN JACOB COOPER MARRIED (1st) HIS SECOND COUSIN. Isn't that POSSIBILITY interesting? Of course, we must admit at this point, we haven't the slightest bit of hard evidence that Jacob's Mary-IS-the DAUGHTER of Sarah Balderson Hugh Ely. This tree is only of the Hannah Cooper and John Balderson lines. I also note that two Ely girls also married two of their sons. In the genealogical printout, the information reads as follows: "ix. Sarah Balderson, b. February 21, 1857, Wrightstown, Bucks County. PA; d.WFT Est. 1780-1851; m. Hugh Ely, Jr., January 05,1774, Buckingham Twp., Bucks County, PA." Looking at this date of marriage, 1/5/1774, I doubt very seriously, that they, together, had daughter Mary to marry at about at or about age 13 to 14 and give birth to "Baby Mary" in or about 9/10/1788. I figure Jacob to be about 35 to 37 years old at the time. Things are getting a little tight for us. My 76 year old brother- in-law is in intensive care at Lumberton, NC (near Fayettevelle) hospital with lung cancer. He currently has a lung on him. We expect to go there the first of next week to be of help to Catherine's sister. I also have a Clemson 45th year reunion for my Class of 1954 next weekend. He had quit smoking a few years ago and they found the tumor in January. Things have gone down faster than expected. Hope you are doing well. Be careful how you use this information. I may put a query on the internet under Ely or Balderson. Sincerely, Carroll

COOPER FAMILY JULY 1998 FowlerCooper connections, Dug through my archived e-mail and found this one that mentions a book titled, "The House of Fowler". Might help if you can find it. Cassandra Cooper 1806-1891, daughter of Moses and Rebecca Carlton Fowler married Joesph Cooper 1795-1868 son of Jacob and grandson of William and Lydia Cooper of Union County SC. I have better dates on William Sr. than what are recorded in this e-mail. Danny Cooper Byrd William Cooper, Sr. was probably born around 1710-1720 in New Jersey. He married Lydia “Lidy”Clark. They lived in Bucks County, PA from about 1753 until 1771. About 1771 they moved to Union Cty, South Carolina.. It appears that William Cooper, Sr. died in Union Cty, SC but there is currently no proof.. William had a will that is recorded at Charleston, S.C. in Will Book TT 1774-1778 that listed his heirs and the land they were to inherit. The names it mentions to inherit are Jacob, William, Stacey, Nathan, Jerimah, David, Joseph, Sarah, and Hannah. It appeas some of the Cooper family was put out by the Quaker Church while in South Carolina. Some of this story is listed in a book called the House of Fowlers. I have not seen this book therefore I’m relying on William Carroll, descendant of the Cooper family, for this information. Some of this information provided is also from Susan Caldwell-email svc@akorn.net.
Robert COOPER (dates unknown) was married to Caroline ELMY, who was born 15 Mar 1819. They had the following children: 1. Caroline 2. Fred (died at sea near Hong Kong, I have a copy of a newspaper article about this) 3. Robert 4. Samuel 5. George Jeremiah (called Jerry) b. 22 Nov 1857 in Suffolk, died 23 Nov 1907 in West Wyoming, Luzern Co, Pa. He married Fannie Simmons, who was born 20 Oct 1860 in Suffolk and died13 Jan 1936 in West Wyoming. George (Jerry) was a sailor while living in England, and it is told that he stayed in the States after taking a day off not allowed. He asked his shipmates to let him know if he had been caught by leaving a signal on the ship. His shipmates play a joke on him, making him think that he was caught, so he stayed on land and sent for his wife and, at that point, 2 children. He worked as a carpenter in the Luzern Co area. It is know that there was correspondence up until at least 1930 with the English branch of the family. They had moved to Norfolk arount 1863. Would appreciate help on any of this people, as the ones I have listed are the last known! Thank you! David Eyre deyre@gmx.de
Eleanor (Ellen) COOPER was born on 28 Nov 1778 and died on 8 Oct 1851. She married Isaac EYRE in 1801. He was born 19 Apr 1778 in Chester, PA and died 26 Jan 1843 In Bucks Co. Isaac EYRE moved to Philadelphia in 1813, when he changes his membership to Phila MM, Northern Distict. Isaac was a ship builder, very successful, and at one point President of Carpenters' Hall. If anyone has information on this Eleanor COOPER, it would be greatly appreciated. She could be from Chester, Delaware, Bucks or Philadelphia Cos in PA. Thank you! David Eyre deyre@gmx.de

Looking for information on John Frank Cooper, SR, b. abt 1883 in Missouri, d. abt 1964 in Cass County, MO, buried in Glenwild Cemetery. Also any info on John Frank Cooper, Jr., Clarence Cooper, Clara Elizabeth Cooper and if there were other children. Would like to know if John Frank Cooper, SR had siblings and places of residence in different years. Think my g grandfather, John Frank Cooper may have been the father of John Frank Cooper, Sr. b. abt 1883 in MO. Any information about any of the above people will be appreciated. Has anyone familiar with the Coopers that left New York state for Canada in 1832 (see Lampham's Brief History page 12) investigated the "why they left" ? There was a "Histories Mysteries" episode (History Channel) that talked about the history of the Masonic and Anti-Masonic movements. In 1826, a William Morgan was killed in "western New York" because he published secret Masonic information. An Anti-Masonic movement began and culminated in the 1832 formation of the Anti-Masonic Party, forebearer of the Whig Party. It was stated in this show that several Masons from western New York sought refuge in Canada. Perhaps a coincidence, perhaps not. I will be investigating this theory and would welcome any comments or suggestions from the descendants of the Coopers of Western New York.
Randal, I have no knowledge of any of my COOPER or FOWLER lines being in New England, but that doesn't mean much; just that I may not have gotten to that point in my research. I can tell you that Archibald FOWLER, my GGG-G'father, named one of his daughters Lavinia (called Vina), not the most common of given names and he and his wife tended to use family names. Sorry that I cannot be of better help, but I will keep my eyes open and your addr. handy. Godspeed... For a full day's worth of reading, check out the new free database Ancestry has up for the next 10 days of Abstracts of Records from Nash Co., NC. A search of COOPER brought up 1,405 hits! Not surprisingly many of them included the town name of COOPER, NASH CO., NC, but enough others are there to perhaps make it worth your while. Enjoy, and good luck.- Nancy http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4682.htm
I am new to this list and hope someone can help me. My great grandfather was John W. Cooper born 26 March 1864 and died 18 November 1903 in an explosion at a mine in Marion County, Arkansas. He married Allie Jo Moody. His parents were Adeline Massey and John Cooper. He had a brother, Berry, and a sister, Louisa Caledonia "Donie" who married Benjamin Franklin Keeter. I have all of the children of John W., Donie and Berry. I would like to learn more about the John Cooper who married Adeline Massey. Does anyone have any information on these Coopers? Velda Jo Bradley

It is her Father and mother that I have been stuck on for a year. Lawrence Cooper father and Nancy, mother. They were from somewhere just south of Nashville. We are looking for a William who married Polly Towns in !834 in Pope Co. Polly and son William Henry came to TX in1853 and we have all the descendents. Can't get a line on William before Pope Co.
