    2. Mary Flegel
    3. Jennifer, I feel your frustration. I have been watching this Cooper list for several weeks now and have seen nothing that looks like it might be a connection to my Coopers. Yours comes closest geographically. I have a John Cooper who was born in 1823 in Lewis or Kanawha County, Virginia, and married to Sarah Schoolcraft Deweese. They had children in Calhoun and Gilmer Counties. Both died in Calhoun County. This area of Virginia became West Virginia after the Civil War and is geographically close to Ohio. I have heard stories about the difficulity boys in this area of Virginia had in choosing sides in the war. Often one brother would choose the north and another the south. I do not have the names of John Cooper's parents. I know this doens't help much but might be a clue for you. Good luck. 2. Jennifer Richart
    3. Dear ALL, I have been watching for a while now, hopeing that something would jump out, but haven't seen anything so I figured I'd include a post and see if anyone can help me. I am looking for the family of Joseph M COOPER (B:1807 in Ohio according to 1850 Missouri Census) who was married to Sally UNKNOWN (B:1811 Kentucky). Children (acc. to 1850 Missouri Census Bates County): John B:1836 Indiana Isaac B:1836 Indiana Sally B:1837 Indiana Nancy B:1840 Missouri George B:1843 Missouri Susan B:1847 Missouri (died as a child) Joseph M. JR. B:1847 Missouri I am decended from Joseph Jr. It has been told to the family down through the years that Joseph JR. and "his brother" fought on Opposite sides in the civil War. This caused a quarel between them and after the war Joseph JR. moved to Alaska in search of gold while his brother went to Montana to ranch. Joseph Jr. made off well in Alaska, even having Cooper Landing in Alaska named after him, but lost touch with his family in the states. I have made contact with my Alaska relatives, but am looking back further to find out information about the family he left behind. Unfortunately, I do not know which side he fought on, or any other information about his life in the states. Because the family moved around alot, I think they were farmers, it has been difficult keeping up with them. Does anyone know any of his siblings or have an idea of where else I can look to try to find them. I am still relatively new at this and would love any guideance. Thank you ahead of time to everyone. 3. I have an America COOPER that was married in Peoria in 1851, to Earl Rodney SMITH. He was there making wagons for the westward movement. I know very little about her, and nothing of her family. I am beginning to think maybe she was not a COOPER, but a widow. She was 26 yrs. old when married to E.R.Smith . 3. Hi Kevin, I started to respond to your query from a few days ago, but then got side-tracked.--- Does close count?! My husband has a brother that lives in Mason City, midway between Springfield and Peoria. :) But for the time period you mention, nothing definate, but you might want to check on the family/descendants of Abner Cooper and Rebecca McCoy. They were in Butler Co., KY in the early 1800's along with his brothers John, Isaac, David, and Markham, and then his descendants spread out to Indiana and Illinois, specifically, Terre Haute, IN and Marshall, Wabash and Newman in Clark Co., over by Decatur. This is Emma Shephard's line that I mentioned before (June 6). No Ogden at all in the info I have, but our Cader had a daughter named Martha A., b. 1840 but in AL. (probably Talladega Co.). Sorry nothing more. Do you have any other names that tie in, or did they move any place else? I take it you have checked the census records... Hang in there and good luck, Nancy B. 3. Danny, Thanks for the information. I need to check the 1900 census in Marion County, Arkansas and see where John W. Cooper, born 26 March 1864, was born. I think the 1900 census would also tell where his father and mother were born. Adeline Massey Cooper had a sister, Lessie Tiewater, I'm not sure of that spelling. I don't know anything about John W's father or much about Adeline except she is buried at Russellville, Arkansas, I think. Oh, I hope this is the same line. Velda Jo
