I've had a request to post the following from a non-subscriber. Please reply to Nvhen@aol.com Cheska, Would you be so kind as to post this for me? I'm not researching the COOPER families, I just thought if anyone was researching Mr J Wesley Cooper, (the author of the book with bios in each book) I'd be happy to forward the information contained in the two books for him and his wife. With many thanks! Etta Oline ------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Afternoon: I've just begun my search on the PLUMMER/JONES/BUCHANAN families, that I've been 'told' are from Natchez. Since I remembered this, a few years back I was out 'estating' I found a wonderful book, by the author, J. Wesley COOPER, written in 1957. The title is: A Treasure of Ante-Bellum Homes - Natchez. In the bio for Mr Cooper, it also appears he spent a few years living in Natchez, from GA, prior to moving to Spartanburg, SC. The other book in my possession is A treasure of Louisiana Plantation Homes, 1961. I wanted to share the resource with you and give you a brief listing of surnames indexed in the NATCHEZ book (most are only one person listed, but are tied directly to a specific home). You may contact me if you are interested in a specific home or the LOUISIANA book and I'll check and forward information as found. I'll be more than happy to share what information is listed here, so email me privately at NVHEN@AOL.COM. I hope this helps someone. Please forward this email to any lists that you think might find this information useful. Both books are beautiful and very interesting. Mr. Cooper's love of these homes show in his very artistic work captured here. In about 1815-1817, does anyone show a marriage of a Cooper (male) to a Hayes/Hays/Hase (female) . This would of been in Tennessee and probably either in Hardin or Wayne Co., Tennessee. Thanks, Steve Cooper 75 Cooper Drive Florence, Alabama 35633 scooper75@mindspring.com
Hi List, I have been searching for the parents of a John Wesley Cooper born 1849/1850 in Letcher/Floyd County, KY for about 3 years now without success, I am hoping someone on this list will have a connection. I have been in touch with numerous family members from across the country, Many who have never even met or heard of each other. They all have the same story. John Wesley Cooper was either a full blooded or 1/2 Cherokee Indian Who was born a Combs/Coombs was orphaned and adopted by a Cooper family. I have done extensive research on this man and have yet to find any connection, If anyone has a connection or any ideas on where I should look please let me know. I am leaving for KY on a research trip in 12 days so I will be in the area. Below is what Documentation I have so far. 1860 Census of Letcher County, KY "Wesley Cooper" living in the home of a John Day and family age 11. (Used Wesley a lot) Dec. 24, 1868 married Mary Jane Watkins in Floyd County, KY, gives no names for his parents, says mother is from Floyd County, KY Lists birthdate as Aug. 1849 Letcher County, KY Many other Census in Floyd, Greenup KY, Scioto Ohio, Counties. Gideon Cooper was born 1796 in NY (assuming Dover, Dutchess Co. NY) died 1870 in Barry Co. MI. Gideon married Mariah ?. Two known children Jane b. 22 Oct 1827 in Dover and Patience b. 01 July 1837 in Dover. Believe that Gideon's parents were Ephraim (1762 - 1838) and Patience Cooper. Ephraim and Patience had a daughter Mercy Cooper that died 1854 in Dover. Brothers of Gideon might have been Lewis and Samuel (b. 12 Jun 1798). Lewis and Samuel are in the Dover, Dutchess census the same time of Gideon except for when Gideon moved to Michigan in the late 1840's. (Census dates 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860) Do any of these names sound familiar? Thank you. Calee Leversee CALEEL@aol.com
I have a Martin Cooper also...born in Allen Co. Kentucky 1818 died 1909 Sumner Co. Tennessee.....I found on a Family file cd that his father was William but I have never been able to prove that. It has on census records that his father was born in Virginia. This has been a brick wall for 20 years.... Deb Cooper Indiana

Well, darn. How about MOSS SPRINGS with a township that you are looking for? Moss Springs was a small town in Geary County in 1895. Don't have any other leads right now. Sorry that my suggestions didn't help. :(( Lois in CA
Hi, Lois, I have checked all your suggestions many times hoping I might find a clue. I realize there is a discrepancy in the dates and age factor. I have also checked the surname Cook. Also there is no Moss County, Ks and never has been. I just don't know where to go from here. Thanks for you help. Hi, Jeri, I have been searching for my grandmother Cooper for about ten years and would very much like to find out about her. Here is what I have on her now. 1. He name is Ida Mae Koach she married Clifford Allen Cooper on the 21 July 1903 in Alva, Woods Co., Oklahoma Territory. 2. Application for marriage license which she states that she is 23 years old and was born in Moss Co., KS. and lived in Alva Ok Territory. 3. Her marriage license, which states the same as her application. 4. Her funeral record. DOB: 4 December 1887. Nationality: German. DOD: 29 August 1929 at Hoisington, KS. It also states her name as Ida E. Cooper. 5. Her death certificate, which states her name as Ida E. Cooper. DOB: 4 December 1887. DOD: 2 August 1929 in Hoisington Ks. It states her father as John Kotch from Germany and her mother as unknown. 6. I know where her grave is in Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, KS. I have checked state census for 1895, 1905 and 1915. And federal census for 1900 and 1910. and found nothing. Oh, yes the last name is pronounced "Cook". I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanking you in advance. Hi Jo... I see a contridictory problem in your facts. You state that the marriage application and the license yourgrandmother, Ida Mae Koach, was 23 years old in 1903. That would make her born in 1880, not 1887 as you state on the death cert & funeral records. One or the other is incorrect. If she was born in 1880 in Moss Co, KS, you might want to check the 1885 KS Agricultural Census records for Moss County. Another avenue of search "might" be the cemetery records. I found the full name of my g.grandfather in Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, OK. And, a third one, which I'm sure you've already tried, is to search for the name COOK since it was pronounced like Cook. Just some suggestions. Lois in CA

Would love to find some cousins!!!! By the way....I have suspected Kent in England as pehaps an early source but have not got around to tracing that angle. Best Regards, Jeri Cooper DeVries.
