We have a few MASSEY connections too,(note Nelle in this passage-again, she's not one of ours.)I do have some early info if you are interested. Hope you recognize something here. Nancy Cooper miminbc@sprynet.com <ccp> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: Sheridan County Date: Sun, 2 Jul 2000 21:33:24 -0600 From: "Judy McGinnis" <judymcg@aculink.net> To:<miminbc@sprynet.com> Hello Nancy, The books I have are a two volume set entitled Sheridan County, Kansas, A History of Faith and Labor. I think they are still available should you decide there is enough in them to justify buying them. Volume 2 has one tiny mention of a Johnny Byers. The article is about agriculture and the changes in equipment, etc. in the last 100 years. A man named Bill Stewart was interviewed about his collection of farm equipment. On page 47, it has a paragraph about a tractor owned by Johnnie Byers. Also in volume 2 are the following Coopers: Angelia (Davis), Benjamin, Christa, Christie (Kerr), Cindy (Meier), Cody Wayne, Edith Mae (Robinson), Edward, Erwin, George (2), H.H., Isaac, Isaac Milton, Jaime Charis, Janet (Whitehair), Jesse Michael, John, Joseph, Laura A. (Mitchell), Lela Kathleen (Walden), Leslie, Mabel (Mitchell), Marie, Mark, Martha, Mary Ellen McEnyde, Mary Leah (Richardson), Max, Megan, Melanie Sue (Simon), Mike, Milton, Nelle (Massey), Norris, Patrick, Ralph, Ron, Rosa Augusta (Schumann), Rose (Meier), Rosemary, Roy, Ruby, Sonya Marie, Steve, Suzanne Marie (Carder), Theda, Thelma (Suffecool), Wallace, Willard. Volume 1 has Edith (Davidson) Byers. The story was submitted by her and was about the Walter Davidson family and the store where Walter (her father, I think) worked and that he later purchased. It does not mention the Byers family. There are many Coopers in this volume, as well. Many are the same as above, but there also are mentions of: Amy Joy, Charlotte, Curtis Lee, David, David Lee, Dean Edward, Delphia Marie (Morris), Ethel Rose (Robinson), Jane Catherine (Adkins), Janelle Sue (Karnes), Joseph Dale, Juanita (Moss), Kent Douglas, Kevin Ray, Lauretta (Suffecool), Leisha, Lloyd, Nelda (Kerr), Randall, Robert, Shirley (Miller), Ted Roy, Veronica (Frye), Walter Robert. In addition there is an article about Cooper School District #61 by Ruth Carley, a teacher in the dustbowl days of the 1930s. Several pictures of schools and classes are in this part of the book. The only Cooper named in a picture is Lloyd Cooper in the graduating class of 1914. Township maps have acreages marked by owner. I think these names are not in the index, since they are small and handwritten. If you care to know about them, I can look later and see if I can spot any Byers or Coopers. I hope this helps. If you need other information, just email me. I'll be happy to look for you. I was curious if your family had come from or gone to Iowa. My McGinnises had come from Adair County, Iowa and went back to the Adair/Madison/ Warren County area. I wondered whether other families moved with them. Happy hunting! Judy P.S. I checked my Logan County (next to Sheridan County) centennial history book, just in case. I did not see any story about Byers, Cooper or Lewis. There is no index, so it's hard to say if there are any mentioned in another story. Frank Cooper 1910-1983 is buried in the Oakley Cemetery. There are 3 Lewises, Kathrine 1897-1897, Maymie 1898-1898, and Royal 1856-1939. Grace Lowe Cooper 1898-1934; Lewis, baby son of J.I. and E. 1905-1905; and Fay N. Lewis 1870-1932 are buried in the Winona Cemetery.>>>>>

    3. Your A.L. Cooper could be related somehow to my John McCutchie Cooper, but since I know nothing of my John's siblings and other family (except one sister), I have no information to tie in with yours. They may have changed the spelling of their name at some point, but I don't have any indication that they did, and have heard no family stories that mention it. I do know that some of my Denson family moved to Arkansas, so maybe some of the Coopers did too. One of these days, WHEN I locate John M.'s family, maybe we'll be able to connect! 3. Nancy, Thanks so much for thinking of me during your research! Yes, that's my John McCutchie Cooper's obituary. I do have a copy of the actual obit, which gave me more information than I'd ever had on John M. It was written by James M. Denson, brother to John M.'s wife Permelia Ann Denson, so I feel like he probably knew John M.'s history as well as anyone. As to its accuracy, I haven't been able to prove any of it except that John and Permelia married in Walton County, GA. Although I've been unable to find any connection to my Coopers, Lewis J. Cooper and a Blake Cooper keep surfacing in my research, so I'm keeping my eyes open! Again, thank you! It's so nice to know someone's out there and willing to help. Hope I can return the favor! 1. [COOPER-L] Burke Co., GA 1785 - 1793
    2. A very helpful person fwd the following to me from another list. This was in an article on Early Burke County, GA. I do not know the name of the publication but will find out if anyone is interested also I do not have any additional info on the coopers and copelands listed. Gene, Here is what I found: Cannon Cooper, Solomon Lam (this is how they spelled it) and Barnaby Lamb signed the petition asking for a pardon for James Taylor (62 total signers). This was written to Gov. Telfair and he served in 1786 and 1790 - 92 so it was during his service. James Coper and Solomon Lamb signed a petition asking for a pardon for Littleberry Tilman 1800 or 1801. Cannon Copper sgned a petition asking for the pardon of Blassingame Harvey in 1791. Harvey was in a fight with another man. ( I have described this in other postings.) 126 total signed Cannon Cupper, James Copeland, and Abram Lamb signed the petition for pardon of Wm. Allen Burton who was also in the above fight. 163 signed his pardon request. Cannon Cooper is listed as a juror for the above case in court Feb. 18, 1791. There is a list of foreclosures, 1785 - 1792 and one of the people who was foeclosed, John Mears, had land next to Thomas Lamb and George Baillie. There is a list of legal notices found in the Augusta Chronicle and Thomas Lamb is listed as having land next to Nicholas Long. There is a list of people who defaulted on their taxes: Mr. Copeland in 1790 Frederick Cooper in 1793 Abraham Lamb in 1790 Abraham Lamb, Jr. in 1793 Bethal Lamb in 1790 Solomon Lamb in 1790 Thomas Lamb in 1793 I noticed that in 1793 Thomas Lamb and Abraham Lamb are living in the same district. In 1790 Abraham, Bethal, and Solomon Lamb are living in the same district. Gene Lamb Researching Cooper, Copeland, Toler, Lamb, Newsome. GA, NC, VA

(possibly Eva ????) and raised 3 girls & 1 boy (according to family stories). He remained in Dimmitt in the 1930's & 1940's and moved to the Topeka Kansas area, re-married and stayed there until his passing in 1964. Joseph Neal Cooper, age 62, died 2 July 1964, Prairie Home Cemetery, Menoken Township, Shawnee Co, KS. No stone located. I'm looking for any information regarding Joseph Neal Cooper, his wives, descendants, ancestors, etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Curt Email: graghost@flash.net
