Nancy and Jo Ann, I guess I missed part of this conversation. Did you determine if this fellow is related to William Cooper of Buck PA / Union SC. I believe one of the sons went to Ohio. Nancy; Thank you for your reply. My line is Rebecca Ann Cooper born 1834 in Waynesville, Warren Co., Oh. (my greatgrandmother), her father Ustacy Cooper born 1806 in Union Co., S.C., died in Waynesville, Warren Co., Ohio. I thought possibly Ustacy father could be Joseph Cooper (no proof)who is the son of old Eustacy Cooper of Union Co., S.C. Is there any connection? I have searched for years for the parents of my Ustacy Cooper born 1806 with no answers. I will appreciate any help. << OK, Bob, This is too good to pass up. Tell me more. What Cooper line do you have back to 1730, and what Manning line are you from? We are from John Cotton in SC (son of Marcome, we think)in SC through his son Cader, and my maternal grandmother was a Manning, from NC to Clark Co., AR. I have that line back to 1635. Let's compare. Nancy Bray Cooper miminbc@sprynet.com>> Okay, Nancy: Hmmmm --1635---Let me guess John Manning "The Globe" to Virginia. Nope, I'm not related to those Manning's or the Manning's in SC. I do descend from Jeffrey Manning and Abigail Andrews who settled in Piscattaway, NJ. Many from that line including my family also have the John Manning 1635 "The Globe" story, but they claim Boston as destination. I believe we are wrong and I assign this John Manning to Roanoke, VA. My Cooper immigrant family are Adam Cooper and his wife Jane (later Jane Rutledge) and their children. My first Cooper marriage in SC was their son William Cooper to Jane James. This line continues to my grandmother Rosie Isabel Cooper who married in 1910 my grandfather Frederick Claude Manning who at the time was a principal in the Sumter Telephone Mfg. Co.
Hi, I don't think that I can be of any help. I am trying to get a connection for the parents of my gr grandfather John Wesley Cooper. His death cert states his mothers maiden name was Adams from magoffin County. I am looking for a connection with this Martha Adams Cooper and family. Good luck in your search Ed Cooper

Sandy, sorry, no one by that name in the book I have. Darlene

Hi Fellow Coopers! I am following a William Davis Cooper, who started out in Edgefield SC or so I have been lead to believe. Also the information I can find relates him to a Timothy Cooper, however, the Dates I have found are all so different. Some would have him being born to a child others to a hundred year old mother...... Anyone working on this find fellow? Hi, Does anyone have any information or connection to the following? ? John ? and Martha Jane Adams Cooper (1834) had children William Albert (1856), Nancy Elizabeth (1860) and Thomas (1868). They were born in Morgan/Magoffin/Floyd County, depending on the time and county boundaries. Thank you Ed Cooper Searching for the elusive parents of John Wesley Cooper born 1849/1850 Letcher, Floyd County, KY area
Ulrike, I don't know if this will help, but you might try going to ancestry.com where all the files are free until the 31st of July. If this man died as late as the 1950s, there is a chance that there is a Social Security file on him, and it will show up with a search on ancestry.com. I found several the other night when I was trying to help a cousin locate grandparents. There is a link with each record for a form letter to write for further info. Hope this will be helpful. Amy, BINGO! Our line is connected to them! I just got a "slew" of info on them this summer. My husband(and consequently children, etc.)descend from Cader Cooper, s/o John Cotton Cooper, as did Abner Cooper, who was married to Rebecca McCoy, parents of John Abner. Cader and Abner also had a sister who married Allen Givens. Let's talk!! Hi Lois, I would like it if you keep me informed, too, on whatever you find out. And I will do the same for you. Is the book you mention still in circulation, or a private publication, or what? Sounds interesting. I would like to find out more, as several of both mine and hub's lines are from early SC. Hi Nancy... Edward Ball's book, "Slaves in the Family," is indeed still available. I purchased mine from Border's just this last March or April. It is a paperback, published by Ballantine Books, copyright 1999. Border's price was $15.95. I will let the list know if I find out anything about this supposed Cooper Rice Plantation in SC. Even if I'm not from the family...:)) Lois in CA
I am looking for anyone that has info on the family of Harriet Elizabeth COOPER b. 13Jul1849 m. Asberry Thomas Givens 25 Feb 1869 in Butler Co. and d 6 Oct 1897 in Butler Co. Her parents were John A. Cooper b.27Nov1819 & d. 16Feb1888 and Hulda B. McCoy b. 23 Sep1827. Amy Givens Estes
Hi Lois, Would greatly appreciate any information you find out about this rice plantation. I live in NC, but am from AR and I own rice farms in NE AR. I may or may not be related to the Cooper's who grew rice in SC. Just the fact that we have that in common is of interest to me. If I should find out anything along this line will inform you. Hi Gary... The only thing I do know right now is that there were indeed rice plantations along the Cooper River near Charleston. I recently read the book written by Edward Ball titled "Slaves in the Family" which is about his family (the Balls) and their rice plantations along this river. Will let you know anything I find out.
