I found this on the St. Clair, MO page http://www.rootsweb.com/~mohenry/biography/scbioC.htm#0056 COOPER, M. L. source: 1883 History of St. Clair County, MO, National Historical Co., pg: 1143 --- M. L. COOPER, farmer, section 5, was born in Greene County, Tennessee, July 21, 1840, and was a son of John A. and Sarah (Law) Cooper, both natives of Tennessee. When M. L. was five years of age his parents moved to West Virginia, and in two years to Clinton County, Missouri, where he became grown. March 17, 1864, he was married to Miss Lucy A. Estes, a native of Missouri. He followed farming in Clinton County, Missouri, till 1867, when he moved to Ray County, and in 1870 came to St. Clair County where he now has a fine farm of 250 acres. During the war he held a commission as captain in Slack's Division, and participated in many important battles. He has been constable of his township for six years. He is now a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and also belongs to the Grange. Mr. C. is the father of eight children: Sarah E., George W., John B., Albert L., Charles B., Elmer M., Archibald and Ann C. Julia Cooper
Sue, While hunting for another surname I'm working on, I just came across a reference to a LOUISA JANE SCROGGINS, b. Abt. 1830, Tennessee; m. JAMES SKELTON, Aug 16, 1849, Barry County, Missouri. Do you suppose it could be a lead to your Doris? Follow this chain of events: While in Christian Co., KY looking for records for Cader COOPER and his father John Cotton Cooper, in addition to finding records for them, I found a marriage record for James SCOGGINS and Lurana NICHOLS. I saved it, "just in case", since my husband's COOPER grandmother's maiden name was SCOGIN(spelled many different ways) and I am having a hard time tying her father to earlier roots. I posted the information on the SCOGIN list and got a reesponse from a descendant, who also forwarded a website. <http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/c/r/HOWARD-H-SCROGGINS/index.html> The above named Louisa SCROGGINS was the daughter of James and Lurana. There was nothing further on then on the site, but I thought I would pass the info along to you. I am also researching COOPERs in Ontario, but they do not connect yet unless the connection is in England. However, many of the given names are the same. Our first COOPER of record married in Ingtham, Kent, England in 1769. His name was also Thomas. The family spread from there and as we have it now covers 4 continents and 6 or 8 countries. I have been looking for my great grandmother since 1970 and have come up against a brick wall. Her name was Sarah or Sally Cooper born 1802 - don't know if she was born in NY, NJ or PA. In the 1850, 1860 and 1870 she said she was born in NY. She married John Scott in the 1820's - I have children from 1827 on but there may have been some before. The 10children I have were all born in NY, in Seneca, and Veteran, Chemung Cty, NY. Their names were Jane, Charles, Evelucinda, George, Squire, Magee, Sarah Elizabeth, Robert, Zaida and Harrison (the ones I have). Hope some one can help me. Zelma Anderson Zeand@aol.com

I was going through the archives the other night and found a list of Cooper marriages ,from MARYLAND MARRIAGES(two volumes-1634-1677 and 1778-1800) posted by <MurielRS@aol.com> on 10 July 1998, which included COOPER, Wm. , 17 Dec. 1779 , Mary HARRISON 4 FR (Frederick Co.) I know this couple(or one of same name??) has been discussed before, but the notes I had on them didn't indicate the marriage location. I hope it is useful. It is file #67, if anyone is interested in others from MD. Nancy
My grandfather, James Robert Cooper, was born 2 December 1853 somewhere in Georgia and migrated to Pasco County, Florida where he married a Mary Etta Gillett. Ihave no further links in GeorgiaAny connection would be appreciated. Richard Cooper
Perhaps Etta was a shortened form of Henrietta or Loretta or Margaret. Etta was a common name for all these given names. Might try hunting for those names and see if you come up with anything. Lois in CA

Charles Cooper's last daughter was born in 1823 after he died, name Elizabeth, married a William Holt and raised a family in BellBuckle/WarTrace area. Joyce
