    3. Diane, If you know of a Cooper male that is related to you, he shoudl do a DNA test. I am not sure of the Elizabeth Kelly you refer to. There was a James Cooper in this area, but I am not sure he married an Elizabeth Kelly. It has been surmised that Elizabeth Kelly married a Benjamin Cooper(from PA), but this is not my Benjamin. Internet genealogy is, or can be very suspect at times. 3. Hi Gary: This Cooper line is so far back that I don't know anybody from the family at all. & am taking what I've found so far, with the proverbial "grain of salt" anyway. I'm comfortable (certain) with the info only as far back as the marriage of Reuben Wright & Anna/Joanna Gilbert in 1798, Sussex Co. VA. Earlier than that though, it's just based on "preponderance of evidence", families around them & the "Surety" at their marriage. I have had a DNA done on my Wright line & had a 12 for 12 match with a descendant of Jarrett Wright who married Tabitha Howell in Brunswick Co. VA. Neither of us have a clue as to which Wright line in the area is ours as there were several, apparently unrelated as far as we can tell, & they all used the same "given" names. There seems to be quite a few folks researching other families of these surnames in VA but only a few working on this line & we're all just stumbling around in the genealogical darkness at that present time. Thanks, Diane E. ----- Original Message ----- From: "gsc" <gcooper@lexcominc.net> To: <cooper@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2007 10:31 AM Subject: Re: [COOPER] Cooper Surname Newsletter, etal > Diane, > If you know of a Cooper male that is related to you, he shoudl do a DNA > test. > I am not sure of the Elizabeth Kelly you refer to. 3. Hi Gary: I am from Anna (or Joanna) Gilbert who married Reuben Wright in 1798, Sussex Co. VA. I don't know who Anna's parents were but am sure she is from Joanna Cooper. b 1729 (who marr Wm Gilbert). This Joanna was the daughter of a James Cooper (& Eliz Kelly), son of Reuben Cooper, son of Reuben Cooper, according to the info that I've been able to find on gen sites on the internet. My Anna Gilbert Wright was b in Surry Co. VA in 1779 & I don't know if she is the dau or gr dau of Wm Gilbert. These folks appear to be quite affluent & it's surprising that info on them is so scarce but I'm still looking after about 10 yrs of research. I did find a document at the Library of VA that gives Joanna Gilbert property after the death of her husband, William. I know that some in this family went to GA but mine went to IN & later some of their children moved on to IL, around Jasper/Edgar/Clark Co. My Reuben & Anna (Gilbert) Wright went to Greene Co. OH & then on to Henry Co. IN where Reuben was a Methodist-Episcopal minister in Knightstown, IN. They are in the 1850 Wayne Co. IN census but Reuben's age is listed incorrectly in the index - it indicates that he is 21 yrs old. On the census page itself, it appears that he is either 91 or 71, we aren't sure which is correct. I have good info on 3 of their children & even more info on their grandchildren but just can find very little on this couple or their earlier history. I have found a concentration of folks of all 3 surnames living close to one another in Fentress/Overton Cos, TN but I don't know if that's indicative of something important... or maybe nothing at all. Thank you for contacting me & sorry I don't have more to share.
