    1. [COOPER-L] Lewis Bryant Cooper-GA and AL
    2. Gary and Ann Turk
    3. Looking for the family of Lewis (Louis) Bryant Cooper born about 1826 in Georgia or South Carolina. Believe that he first married Elizabeth Porter in Jones County, Georgia in 1842, and they had sons James (1846) , John (1851) and Joseph (1847.) Before 1860 Lewis Cooper married Elizabeth Jane King Pettis in Georgia. They had William Moses (1860), Lewis Elendor (1862), and Georgia (1869.) Lewis Cooper died before 1876 probably in or near Henry County, Alabama. His widow Elizabeth Pettis Cooper boarded a train sometime after December 13, 1876 along with her young children and headed for Ellis County, Texas. She died by the end of the journey and was buried December 28, 1876 in the Mountain Peak Cemetery, Ellis County, Texas. Would appreciate any insight into the Lewis Cooper family. Thanks. Ann Turk in Texas

    3. Since I last wrote, I have found my William on the Clayton County Iowa census for 1860, 1870, 1880. His wife's name is Mary and she was born in Virginia. William was born in Ohio according to the census. The children listed on the 1960 census are Alonzo, age 11 born in Michigan; Melissa, age 6 born in Iowa; Adelbert, age 4 born in Iowa. There is a James Huggust, age 74 born in Virginia. I think this might be Mary's father. On the 1870 and 1880 census there are more children. I can send them to you if you are interested. I also have some marriage records for this family now too. Let me know if you are interested. 3. I don't know the A. L. Cooper that you are referring to but I think it is a bit unusual that my father's name was A. L. Cooper and my brother was A. L. Cooper, Jr. The A. L. stood for Adelbert Lounzol in both cases. My father's dates are 1908 to 1991 and my brother's was 1937 to 1994. My father's great grandfather name was William Cooper 1821 to before 1900. I don't know if there is any connection as I have not been able to find out very much about this side of the family. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. 1. [COOPER-L] David Cooper of Spartainburg
    2. Daniel R. Cooper
    3. To the list and especially to those many descendants of David Cooper of Thicketty, Sc (Spartainsburg area). Many of us, for some time have assumed (there's that word again) that the father of David was Marcome. Perhaps because it was common practice to name the first son after the grandfather. It still happens that way sometimes. Now comes an entry in GenForum, posted by Walter J. Wilmoth, about an Ann Cooper who married William Wilmoth's grandfather, Thomas. Deed of April 13 1762, Prince Edwards County states wife's name is Ann. Ann's brother George lived next to them according to deeds copied by Walter J. Wilmoth. George was from England and the father of David Cooper. This same David Coopers daughter Charity married John Wilmoth son of William, son of Thomas. This all seems to fit very well with known history. Walter states that there is more info available in James Lillard Wilmeth's Book. Which I haven't acquired. I have surmised that we will be more successful if there are more than one of us investigating this good info. I am going to acquire the book and see if I can prove anything. 3. According to a cousin, I am related to James Fenimore Cooper. She remembers that at the family reunions the Delaware Coopers always read the family history. The Coopers were supposedly from England. One brother supposedly came over in 1687. I am a descendent of Samuel G. Cooper, born November 30, 1839, in Lancaster co., PA. According to a census in West Earl Township, Lancaster co. 1850: Jacob Cooper 44 M Blacksmith 1600 Elizabeth 38 F Eliza 18 F Jacob 16 M Blacksmith Samuel 11 M Daniel 8 M George 5 M Mary Ann 2 F At the residence above was George Cooper 70 M Laborer. I believe he might be related to Jacob Cooper. Jacob is most likely the father of Samuel G. Cooper.
