Fellow Cooper Researchers: It has been a while since I have posted a query on the list. I am wondering if there are any new researchers of the family of Thomas Cooper who married Sarah ANTHONY, 1762, Bedford Co VA, and died ca. 1797 in Greene/Hancock Co GA. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph Anthony and Elizabeth CLARK. I believe the (undocumented) source for Thomas birth in Frederick Co, VA in 1733/5 is "Anthony Roots and Branches" compiled by Nancy Vasti Jacob, which I finally found and looked at. Thomas also has been claimed in at least one DAR membership application and I hope to view that soon. I had been tentatively accepting information at a Culpepper family website that Thomas was the son of Benjamin Cooper who married Elizabeth KELLY, 1721 in Philadelphia, PA. However, in more closely examining their Thomas, I find he was b. 1720s it seems and there is the wide variety of conflicting information for that Benjamin's whereabouts, so I decided to begin taking a closer look. In 1764 Bedford Co deeds records there is a Thomas Cooper, Sr., and Thomas Cooper Jr., and a James Cooper, who is brother of Thomas Cooper Jr. Separately, at genforum there is a post that says that Thomas b. 1735, is the son of Thomas b. 1710. There is also a Thomas Sr. and Thomas Jr. in 1767 Pittsylvania Co Tax lists (this family is found in Henry Co in the 1780s). I fully understand that Sr. and Jr. designations in tax lists, deed records etc., can refer to an older and a younger man of the same name, not necessarily father and son. In Bedford Co, however, Sr. and Jr. appear to be living in the same general area (Possum Creek). Again, I plan to research much more but am curious if any of you out there have more information on my Thomas. I descend through his daughter Mary (Polly) who married John WALLER, son of George Waller II and Anne Winston CARR. Mary Polly married Crispen Robertson SHELTON, grandson of Crispen Shelton and Letitia BUFORD maybe or Monticue maybe or Payne maybe. Lots of folks tracking that down. Thanks in advance, Janet (Baugh) Hunter

Hi List, I ordered two certificates which I now find are not my line. They are: Marriage - Edwin COOPER, bachelor aged 57, born in London, England marries Sarah Ann MASTIN, widow aged 50. The marriage took place on 22 June 1887 at Ballarat. Edwin's parents were Joseph COOPER, Stipendiary magistrate and Sarah Ward. Death cert - Edwin COOPER died 11 January 1890 in Ballarat, occupation miner, age 35. Father William Henry COOPER, labourer, mother Isabella (maiden name NK). His birth place is shown as Castlemaine ( I assume this is the one in Victoria, Australia). Edwin's wife was Jane, nee McGILL. He left three children - Isabella Ann age 6, Edwin Paul age 4 and William Henry age 7 months. If anyone would like either of these certs, please email me off list. I will also submit them to Free BMD. Regards, Leonie in beautiful sunny Queensland, Australia

Cooper married John Nolen in Hempstead County, Arkansas, on June 19, 1870; Martha Cooper married N.B. Phillips in Hempstead County, Arkansas, on December 21, 1899; Martha A. Cooper married Mathias Smith in Yell County, Arkansas, on March 9, 1846. I hope some of this helps! Kevin Miller
Curt, I'm not even sure if Samuel Ogden or Martha Cooper were in Arkansas. I have Martha Cooper being born in approximately 1833. I do not know her parents. I thought she was born in Virginia, but I'm not even sure of that. Samuel Ogden was born in England in about 1819. I do not know the names of his parents either. Samuel died January 9, 1876, in Peoria, Illinois. Martha survived him along with their children: Peter, James W. and Anna (nee Ogden) Sharp. In 1860 Peoria census, it lists Samuel as a "saloon-keeper" and 41 years of age. Martha was listed as 27 years and I think it reads "VA" as place of birth, but I could be misreading it. Mary E. was listed as 2 and 1/2 years of age and Peter S. was listed as 3 months. Both were born in Illinois. In 1862, my great-grandfather, James Washington Ogden, was born in Peoria, Illinois. That's all I know. I cannot find a marriage record for James and Martha in Virginia or Illinois on Ancestry.com, so maybe they were in another state, i.e., Arkansas. Kevin
Hi Kevin! I can't find Martha Cooper after the 1850 Greene Co, AR census, so anything is possible. Can you give me anymore information on Samuel Ogden? Did he live in Greene Co, AR in the 1850's? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to break down a BIG brick wall here. Does anyone have any info on a DRUSSINA or DRUFFINA or DRUCILLA or any similar name who married a John M. Cooper abt 1815, probably in Sullivan Co, TN? They had these known children: Sarah, b. abt 1816; Christopher Columbus Sr., b. 1824-25; Jehu, b. 1815; John L., b. 1833; Jasper, b. 1835; and Milly, b. ? There may be other children that we have not located yet. They lived in Sullivan Co and then eventually migrated to Hardin Co, TN. Both John M and Drussina/Druffina/Drucilla/? Cooper died in Savanah, Hardin Co, TN bet 1858-1865. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Lois in CA
Sorry I didn't read you e-mail very well. William's name of the 1860, 1870, and the 1880 Census all have him listed as William and that he was born in Ohio and that he owned land there. I don't have very much. His name on the 1960 census is listed as Adelbert. I have several pictures of Adelbert. His full name is Adelbert Peter Cooper and he lived in Woodward Co., OK where he homesteaded in 1903. I have nothing that is documented on him. Wish I could give you more.
