    1. [COOPER-L] COOPER, Cunnigham S.
    2. John M. OMelia
    3. There is a listing in the Van Buren Co IA Marriages, 1844-1850 for Cunningham S. COOPER, age 61, married to Mrs. Mary STAGERS, age 47, on 23 AUG 1849 by William SCHUYLER, Justice Peace. The licence was returned 23 AUG 1849. Looking at my trusty calendar for 1849 we see the date above is on a Thusday. This note is supplied to the archives of this list just in case someone may be looking for a piece to fit in the middle of two sections that won`t match or tie together.(g)

    1. [COOPER-L] COOPER, S. [IA Prisoner at Andersonville]...
    2. John M. OMelia
    3. Looking for another ancestor buried at Andersonville Prison there was the grave of S. COOPER, 5th IA, Co B, died 09 AUG 1864, of scorbutus. The grave number was 5101. =============================== This note is provided to the archives of this list just in case someone lost the paper trail when muster papers fail to say where this individual has gone. I have worked many ancestors on both sides of this conflict and the paper work sometimes is woefully wanting. The search always answers one question and asks two more.(g)

    1. [COOPER-L] COOPER, Martha...
    2. John M. OMelia
    3. I found this data written on the back of sheet to a desk calendar. Back in 1984 there was a lot of COOPER listings and there was one that caught my eye. Martha [nmi] COOPER was born in 1865 [IN] and died about 1953 [NE]. Martha married in the 1880`s [IN] to William GULLION. That is all I had on that moment. I was looking for another ancestor`s trail when I spotted this notation. I am posting this with the archives of this list just in case someone on either family line trying to figure out who the other person was that they have nothing on. As I stated before I have a lot of data on COOPER that I cannot use and I thought it best to post it before destroying the data. Take care and best wishes to all.

    3. I really appreciate the Story County, IA burials for Cooper. My granddaughter's 4th great grandfather, Charles Daniel Cooper, has a daughter Ollie Cooper (6 months old at death) buried at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. She was born in 1874 and died in 1875. I believe Ollie is a female, but not certain. :-) At this point I don't know if other Coopers in Story County connect, but the information is helpful. Ruby Coleman

    3. While looking for other ancestors in IA there is the Hawkeye Heritage and their summer issue 1986 pages 90 thru 104 dealing with persons buried in Evergreen Cemetery, at Collins, in Story Co IA. This work was compiled by Catherine HENDERSON and indexed/abstracted by Mildred W. HOLLENDER. NOTE the letters and numbers after the listed COOPER in this cemetery is read as S=section; R=row; L=lot; and VET=veteran. The final number listed is the tombstone number. ================================ COOPER, Alice May [1861-1947] S4R15-28 [Section 4 Row 15 Tombstone 28] COOPER, B. F. 1. Re: [COOPER-L] Lycurgus Cooper
    2. Ruby Coleman
    3. Sarita ... I agree it is an unusual given name. There was Lycurgus Cooper in Columbiana Co., Delaware and also one of the same combination of names in Indiana, obviously yours. Maybe I should clarify my situation. I am researching my granddaughter's paternal ancestry. Her ancestor, Charles Daniel Cooper (often went by Daniel), was born about 1822 or 1826 according to whichever document being used. He married first to Mary Margaret Whitbeck, probably around 1858 and possibly in the area of St. Paul, MN. In 1860 they were living in Buchanan Co., Iowa and apparently shortly after that federal census was taken, back up around St. Paul, MN. Charles Daniel Cooper served in the Mexican War and also in the Civil War. He enlisted in the Union Army as a private in Co. K, 6th Regiment, MN Vol. Infantry on 3 Nov. 1863 and was discharged at Fort Snelling, MN on 19 August 1865. Sometime between 1865 and 1870 he appears to have either left his wife (and two children) or divorced her. In March of 1870 she was living in Black Hawk Co., IA and married as her second husband, George A. Woodward, in Anoka Co., MN. They lived out their lives in Anoka County. Charles Daniel Cooper remarried in 1873 in Otoe Co., Nebraska to Susan Emily Kear and started another family, all of whom were born in Iowa. He died on 29 Dec 1910 in Clearwater, Antelope Co., Nebraska. My granddaughter descends from his first marriage. A Cooper researcher in Missouri has found a scrap of paper in a billfold belonging to one of her ancestors. On this paper was written Charles Daniel Cooper and the name of his Civil War unit in Minnesota. Nothing more to indicate a connection. However, her lineage goes back to Lycurgus Cooper who married Martha Cooper. My thoughts are that perhaps there is a connection between either Lycurgus or his wife, whose maiden name WAS Cooper. Can anybody help me out here? Thanks. Ruby Coleman
