    1. Re: [COOPER] RE: Cooper Hollow
    2. We had a Cooper from Lauderdale County, Alabama that moved to Oregon over a hundred years ago, maybe even a hundred and fifty. I'm not exactly sure which one it was, but I do know which family he is from. His DNA should match my father's through the John Cooper line from Florence, Alabama, and his father Stephen Cooper from Wayne County, Tennessee. If there is a surviving male Cooper from this line who carries the Cooper name, and would be willing to participate in the Family Tree DNA Cooper Project, please make it known. Within about six weeks, we will know!

    2. H. Ben Cooper
    3. A COOPER Surname DNA Project exists for anyone looking for a way to find related COOPER-lines. It does require a male with the COOPER surname. The purpose is to find people with the COOPER surname who share a common ancestor, as well as identifying the different lines and possible points of origin. I have personally used DNA analysis to substantiate research, further my research efforts, give me direction in my research, and to prove or disprove research I have completed. I have found it to be an invaluable research tool. By no means does it supplant traditional genealogy research, but it does supplement and give an added tool in genealogical research. If any one on is interested in becoming a part of this Project, please contact me at the following email address. H. Ben Cooper Group Administrator Cooper Surname DNA Project [email protected]

    1. FYI: Marcum declared a "New Ancestor"
    2. Nancy Cooper
    3. Word was just received last week that in the March/April supplement to the DAR magazine Marcum Cooper has been declared a "NEW ANCESTOR". >> Cooper, Marcum: b. c 1752 NC d a 5- -1811 NC m (1) Sarah X CS NC >> (This would be Sarah Jackson Randolph, according to one source that said "from the Virginia Randolphs") This means that he has been proven as a Revolutionary War patriot, making descendants eligible for (Sons or) Daughters of the American Revolution membership. The cousin that sent me the information did not send the applicant's name, and I have not seen the magazine, but thought I would share the good news with you. This Marcum was the son of David and Elizabeth(presumed to be WILDER) Cooper. His brother Sion was also a veteran and received a government pension. My husband descends from another brother, John Cotton. We have yet to determine if he served. (The DAR web site www.dar.org offers free look-ups in the patriot index, so I have sent in a request.)
