    2. Gerre Byrd
    3. Thanks so much, Danny, for this very interesting info about the COOPERS. And I see that you are a BYRD. My husband's line goes back to Nathan BYRD b: abt 1780 in Anson Co., NC, migrated to Perry Co., TN, then to Johnson Co., AR where he died mid 1800's. My father-in-law told us we descend from "THE BYRDS of VA", but I don't know who he was talking about. It doesn't look like "THE" William Byrd was the ancestor. Believe he was the son of a William Cooper that migrated in the late 1600's from England. There is an historical brick building built by them still standing on Coopers Point in Camden today. It was damaged by fire several years ago. I drove down to look at it when I was researching my William Cooper of Bucks County/Philadelphia who turned out to be unrelated to this Cooper bunch. These Coopers were quite wealthy at that time. Coopers Point is now located in a extremely low income area. Did not appear very safe to visit without being accompanied by someone from the historical society. There is also a Cooper River in the area. Cooper's Point can be found on the old maps of that time period and I believe on the local maps of the area. You might want to try an internet search. 3. Danny, we are from the same line of coopers, I think. Were these Coopers Quakers and did a branch of them later migrate to NC, then to OK and IN? My Cooper ancestors eventually ended up in McDonald County, MO. I have a lot of data, would appreciate comparing them. I am most willing to share. I even have Byrd relatives, but probably not the same line as yours.. 3. Is there a way to get the DNA report for a Daniel C Cooper? My great grandmother was Laura Cooper and her father was Daniel C Cooper and his father was John Cooper. Laura was from Greene Co.,Tn. I have no clue as to the lines from her brothers. Any help would be appreciated. ______________________ Janice W. 3. Kelly, your question is not stupid, it is a very apropos question. The DNA test is on the Y-Chromosome which is unique to the male and passed from father to son generation after generation. Your Cooper brothers, father, uncles, etc can become participants. They all should have the same Y-Chromosome print. Would welcome your Cooper-line's participation in the Cooper Surname Project. 2. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=____1085643909319_,y34cV43wT Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Here is Family Tree DNA testing. It explains the testing and how it must go. http://www.familytreedna.com/ This is taken from Family Tree DNA frequently asked questions 13. I am female and another potential relative is male. How can we make a DNA connection using Family Tree DNA? There are two ways to answer this genealogical question. Ideally a match would best be done by testing a known male member of your biological family, (brother, father or first cousin), against the potential male relative. This is our Y chromosome test which would allow us to also search for the Cohanim gene. The other method, (not as straight forward), utilizes the mother who passes her mtDNA to both male and female offspring and this can be checked using mtDNA or mitochondrial DNA. A match between the mtDNA of a male potential relative and your mtDNA would mean you have a common female ancestor. A male's mtDNA comes only from his mother and is not passed on to his offspring. This is our Maternal Match. I hope this answers your question. The link above should answer any other questions you have. 3. A Cooper Surname DNA Project is available to anyone looking for a way to locate Cooper relatives and their relationship to other Cooper-lines. It requires a male with the Cooper surname. The purpose is to find people with the Cooper surname who share a common ancestor, as well as identifying the different lines and possible points of origin. I have personally used DNA analysis to substantiate research, further my research efforts, give me direction in my research, and to prove or disprove research I have completed. I have found it to be an invaluable research tool. By no means does it supplant traditional genealogy research, but it does supplement and give an added tool in genealogical research. If any one on is interested in becoming a part of this Project, please contact me at the following email address. H. Ben Cooper Group Administrator Cooper Surname DNA Project [email protected]

    3. Hello, I'm looking for information on the COOPER's of London and Surrey. I have the following info Thomas John COOPER (born 1809, St.George, London) and his wife, Elizabeth Ann HURREN (born 1814 Chatham, London. Died: 12 Jan 1881 Ultimo, Syd, Australia) Married 25 Sep 1833, Newington, St Mary, Surrey. What I'm looking for is more info on their parent's; Thomas' parents' are Thomas and Sarah COOPER and Elizabeth's parent's are Joseph and Elizabeth I actually need to know about London in this period of time. Was Surrey a part of London and what parishes were in St George and or Surrey about this time? I can't seem to find any other info on any of them. Probably 'cause there's too many Cooper's out there!!! If you can find anything, it would be appreciated, thankyou, Kelly
