Hi List, I am still looking for the parents of Jesse Cooper. The first mention of him is in 1802 in a newspaper in Cincinnati stating that he had a letter waiting for him at the post office. It was addressed to "Jesse Cooper of Columbia" . Columbia was a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio near Cincinnati. The next mention of him is in 1815 when he is listed in the probate records as being the appraiser (this is not the correct legal term but that's what he did) of the estate of George Cooper. I don't know if George was a relative of Jesse's or not. In 1825 (mid 20s anyway) Jesse petitions the court to have his land divided. I suppose that he wanted to sell some of it. Jesse is listed with his wife Dorcas in the Hamilton County censuses of 1820 and 1830. Sometime in the 1830s he and his family moved to Clermont County. The last mention of him comes in Nov. 1848 when he's mentioned in a diary of a woman who lived in Madisonville, another small town near Cincinnati. She states that he fell into the fly wheel at Kugler's distillery and was injured. He probably died from that since he is not listed in the 1850 census of Clermont County. Jesse would have been born around the mid 1780s. He had 3 sons; William (my ancestor), Jared and Samuel. My father always said he thought that we were descended from the same Coopers as Daniel C. Cooper who laid out the city of Dayton, Ohio in 1796. However, I have no proof whatsoever. Still I wonder about it whenever I see Daniel's statue in Cooper Park in Dayton. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks! Sharon Schwartz
I have been on this list for several months and never seen a posting on the COUPER family. My gr grandfather was JOHN COUPER, born in Arbroath, Angus August 20 1838. He married Elizabeth Ritchie July 17,1863. Before he immigrated (in about 1873) they had a set of twin girls (Ann and Williamina). These twins must have died in Scotland as infants, because John and Elizabeth had another set of twin girls (Elizabeth and Isabell) born in New Jersey and there was no record for Ann and Williamina. My grandfather JOHN CHEYNE COUPER was born in Paterson, NJ September 26, 1881. Are there any other COUPERS out there who might be related? I have data on this family back to James COUPER of St Vigeans born about 1748. Also have Dundee relatives WEST, BAIN, STEWART, CARNEGIE, and RENNIE Frank
What County in Kentucky did Francis COOPER migrate from......Thanks Deb Cooper Indiana

Hello - I am looking for decendants of either Abraham Cooper, died 1779 at Cowan's Fort who married Frances Scott and a Francis Cooper born about 1726 who married Ann possibly Abbott. My line is off of Francis Cooper. There is a strong supposition that these two families are related. We have taken the Cooper DNA and are trying to find mail Cooper decendants who would be interested in taking the Cooper DNA tests. Thanks, [email protected]

Thanks Gail for the SS information, I had not checked that yet. And thanks you for your reply Joy, I have not tried sending for his military records, I wasn't sure if I could get those since I'm not an immediate family member (parent, sibling, child). I'll look again at trying to order those. Laraine
Does any one have any information on Theodore Cooper, born c1849-50, likely in NY. He married Mary Elizabeth Firth, born 1 Sept 1850, at the Simpson M.E. Church in Brooklyn NY,on 14 Aug 1873. Mary Elizabeth Firth was the daughter of Dr. Horatio E. Firth. and Elizabeth (Watson) Firth, both of whom were well known physicians in Brooklyn, NY. Theodore Cooper may have been from Rochester, NY. Theodore and Mary (Firth) Cooper, had a son Charles Everheart Cooper, born 7 Jan 1891 possibly in Auburn, NY. Other children was Marjorie and Theodore, possibly others. Charles Everhart Coopers first married a Ruth___ born in MA. and had three children, born in IL. Sidney, Theodore and Ruth. By a second wife he had a son Bruce B Cooper (aka as Bruce. B. Bailey) Any information will be greatly appreciated. Gloria Laguna Beach, CA [email protected]

My question is my husband's grand mother was a Cooper. So how does it work for him. Margaret (Peggy) Cooper married John Boone. Margaret (Peggy) Cooper's father was William Cooper born 4 May 1762 Monmouth, NJ. We know of no one from this line to help us. Any suggestions on how to find out which Cooper line we come from. William Cooper married Elizabeth Richmond. This is all I have. Joy Durrett From: "H. The Cooper Surname Reconstruction Project now has 84 participants. Seventy-seven have returned their DNA kits and analysis has been completed on 71. Forty-six different Cooper-lines have been identified in the USA and one in Canada. Many of the Cooper-lines originated in the northeast. H. My search has been focused on the Coopers of Eastern NJ, as I am looking for the origin of a Thos Cooper, wf Mary, who migrated to upstate NY circa 1800 or so. There are at least 4 lines of Coopers represented there before 1800, including an Ezekiel from the James of Coopers Point, circa 1750 or so. I am currently exploring the lines of New England Coopers, looking for the origins of the ones who migrated to NJ as land became available. My other New England lines are Balch, Gardner, Bowne,Veren, Conant, Dodge, picked up the Tetor or Dietz in Morris County, NJ, and Cottrell in Monmouth County. The name Conk , Lewis and Grandin appear in NJ for me, and hopefully they will somehow shed some positive light on my elusive Cooper.
