Hello List, Would any one have a Frances COOPER of Allen County, Kentucky the early 1800s or maybe from Sumner Co. Tennessee. Have been trying for over 20 years to find the parents of Martin COOPER born 1815 Allen Co. Kentucky and was in Sumner Co, Tennessee about 1855. I have kept finding a Frances COOPER but have never made a connection. Martin died in1909 and is buried at New Hope Cemetery,Sumner County Thank You Deb Cooper Indiana
I have a land donation from Henry Sr. to his three children made in St. Tammany Parish, La in 1825. It states that he and his late wife actually gifted the children the property in 1813, and the livestock that was delivered in 1813. I descend from the son of Henry Senior, named William. Others were Henry Jr. and Mary who married Daniel Edwards. Does anyone know if the three Coopers in St. Tammany in 1820 census are connected? Cornelius Henry William Mine came from Georgia...but I'm having a time because they are all named the same...They may have been on both sides of the Mississippi border too...not sure.....any ideas? I am looking for the parents and family of Theron Ray Cooper. He married Clare Eva Currie. He was born 17 Jan 1890 in Wells Bridge, Ostego, New York. She was born 21 August 1893 in Florida, New York. They had six children. I am looking for his parents. The 1900 census of NY on Ancestory.com does not have an index so almost impossible to find him. The family appears to be centered in upper NY. He had a son Theron the youngest of his brood who is still living. As I began to hunt this family I thought that Theron was an unusal name and would be easy to tract down. But there are a bunch of them. I suspect that this family of Coopers who use this name are all related. Does anyone on this list know anything about this line. I have been all over the net trying to get a lead on this line but nothing seems to fit together. I looked for a Theron Cooper in the Cooper list archives but did not find anything. Can someone help me? Glee I am new to this list.
Ben, yes, you have the correct John J. Cooper. I can go forward from John's marriage to Mary Hinkins in 1833 in Shenandoah Co., VA but I'm at a standstill going back any further from this date. Family tradition says John's family was Scots-Irish and came from England. I have yet to determine who his parents/siblings were. A branch of the family, John Henry Cooper (1835-1898), went to East St. Louis, IL in 1883. I recently made contact with some of John H's descendants. So far, haven't uncovered anything different. John Henry Cooper's brother, Daniel (1836-1915) is my direct line. I'm hoping for a match with the DNA results. Edith Cooper Shaver [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "H. Hi Gina...I have no Proof as such for thinking Abner was the son of Wells. In the 1830 census record Wells is listed with 3 sons and 4 daughters at home. In the 1820 Bedford county Tn census, he is listed with 4 daughers. 1830 Ky census: Cooper, Wells 1 male -5 / 2 males 5-10 / 1 male 50-60 1 female -5 / 3 females 10-15 / 1 female 40-50 Wells died in 1836. The following info is from Brad Segers in March 2002 [email protected] he sent Jerrry Cooper the inventory of Wells. He also said that he had identified these children: Temperance (Brads ancestor)1818 md Zadock Causey/Cossey Fannie, 1820 md William Rogers Ira about 1822 Alford(Alfred) 1826-1881 Martha 1830 md before 1858 to Robert W. Cossey(brother of Zadock , above) Sophia 1830/32 md. Henry Baker and had children. two unknown children, a daughter born before 1820 and a SON, born about 1824/5.(Abner?) Your Abner would fit into this picture, (1) He was born in Tn. (2) He is the right age. (3) He is not in the 1840 census with his mother as the other two sons are...( is he meeting and getting ready to marry Sarah West??) (4) And if Sarah is not speaking to her father, they do not come back to Christian County Ky. My reason for posting that Abner may be a son of Wells is that we are trying to find a decendant of Wells to do the DNA testing. So there is no Proof, but you can get that...Just have a Cooper male decendant take the DNA test. It has to be father to son, to son , to son, ect. Our Coopers have taken it and we have 7 matches so far....this could take your line back to the middle 1600's in England. Hope to hear from you about the DNA... Had the DNA testing done and so far haven't found a match. Will the DNA site notify me when there is a match or is it up to me to keep checking the results? For clarity, my brother provided the specimen. Edith Cooper Shaver Still searching for John J. Cooper (1813-1856)from the Shenandoah Co., VA area.
Edith, as long as you keep a valid email address in your personal page at FTDNA you will be notified of matches. You do not have to check. H. Hi Joyce, I haven't ran into any of these names so far but, who knows, I have ordered the kit and we will see what happens, I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for writing and will let you know Ed
Hi Ed...dont know if this is a connection or not...but I have been researching in Ky for the decendants of Wells Cooper , born in N.C., went to Tn before 1810 , then to Ky by 1830,who died in Ky in 1836. He was a brother to Zacheus Cooper, (my line). Wells had sons Ira, born about 1821, Abner born 1825 and Alfred born 1827. I have followed up on Abner and Afred somewhat, but so far have nothing on Ira, except he married (1) Mary Causey/Cossey in 1839 in Christian County Ky and (2)Susan Calvin in 1840. It would be VERY interesting if you have the DNA test and match up with our line, we have had 7 tested so far , We are doing the 37 marker test. We really need a decendant of Wells to tie him in with this group. We can take the line back to early 1600. Not proven all the way but looks very promising. I hope you do take the DNA test, this looks good. Looking forward to hearing from you, Later...Joyce ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2004 6:43 AM Subject: [COOPER] DNA Test > Hi List, > Haven't been on for awhile, I'm interested in this DNA test all the lists > are talking about, Has anyone done it and who do I contact. Ed, Hiram "Ben" Cooper is the Group administrator - his email is [email protected],com He manages a website for the COOPER Surname DNA Project located at: http://www2.arkansas.net/~bcooper2k. This has a wealth of information, including family group information contributed my many of the participants. There are 87 members currently. The lab and service provider is through Family Tree DNA. Their website is: http://www.familytreedna.com This test enabled me to confirm a genetic relationship that I had not been able to connect through public records and family legend after 30 years of research. I was one of the original six members of the Group. The cost is insignificant compared to the cost of travel and conventional papertrail research. Hi List, Haven't been on for awhile, I'm interested in this DNA test all the lists are talking about, Has anyone done it and who do I contact. Kind of nervous just giving my money to anyone who says they are doing this. Thanks all for your help. Looking for the parents of John Wesley Cooper born in Floyd County, KY. Mid 1800. Ed Cooper
Sorry, I lost the address and I think this is it, Hope i didn't offend anyone..
Hi List: Does anyone have information on a Charles Cooper who is on the 1901 Census of Canada (age given 75 years); Province of Ontario; Lincoln and Niagara Census District. He was born outside of Canada. The date of his birth would have been 1826. Any information on this man or his family will be appreciated. Gloria Padach Laguna Beach, CA [email protected]

I sent a message to you earlier tonight re ordering a DNA kit. I later realized that I had kept your previous email to me giving all the details and the address. I have now ordered the kit and am hoping to receive it before I leave for KY on July 19. Thanks. Barbara Gillespie Wimm "H. Ben Cooper" <[email protected]> wrote:ATTENTION: COOPER-lines worldwide. A Cooper Surname DNA Project is available to anyone looking for a way to locate Cooper relatives and their relationship to other Cooper-lines. It requires a male with the Cooper surname. The purpose is to find people with the Cooper surname who share a common ancestor, as well as identifying the different lines and possible points of origin. Use DNA analysis to: 1. Substantiate your family research. 2. Further your research efforts. 3. Give you direction in your research. 4. Prove and disprove research you have completed. 5. Prove or disprove family lore. This single aspect of family research makes the investment in DNA testing more than worth the cost. I can attest to this fact. It has disproved historical documentation on my Cooper-line written by some well thought-out Cooper-line researchers and published by prestigious publishers over many years and handed down from generation to generation. I predict it will disprove many historically documented details of Cooper-lines throughout history. DNA analysis is an invaluable research tool, which will improve with age. By no means does it supplant traditional genealogy research, but it does supplement and give an added tool in genealogical research. Effects not often discussed are: 1. It forces you to do in-depth research of your family's roots and to share your findings with other family researchers and encourage their participation. 2. It gives you a greater explanation of your family's history and its migration patterns in the U.S.A. and throughout the world. 3. It brings excitement into your research, causes families to come together and gives your research a sense of worth. 4. It can find previously unknown and new relatives. 5. It will permit you to leave a legacy to your descendands of familial ties with pride.
