To those researching this name in Ireland, perhaps the following records will be useful. St. Joseph's Parish is one of the oldest parishes in Galway and records go back to 1804. First, from St. Patrick's Parish Records (St. Pat's was previously St. Nicholas parish) Laurence Cooley and Mary Ward were married April 11, 1849 at St. Pat's. Note six years pass before a child is baptized - could mean several were lost. In this parish they had the following children: Patt Jan 23, 1855 Laurence Apr 13, 1856 Mary Bridget Jan 18, 1858 Denis Patt Jan 26, 1859 Francis Joseph Apr 3, 1860 Honor Oct 25, 1861 Then they moved to St. Joseph's parish and continued. St. Joseph's is Rahoon parish. Baptisms - born to Laurence and Mary Ward - dates prob baptismal Mary Jan 4, 1863 Bridget Apr 1, 1864 Thomas Jun 18, 1865 Ann Oct 21, 1866 Laurence Dec 12, 1868 Newcastle is mentioned - I presume this to be the townland. This is family number one I have no further info on this family. Donna
For those searching this surname in Ireland, perhaps the following record will be useful. In the parish of Kildysart the parish records begin around Oct-Nov 1829. That is when the Church of St. Michael was built. There are several Cooley families records and the following family is the earliest record John Cooley married Mary Sheehan and they had twins Mary and Thomas who were born on December 13, 1829. I have no further info on this family unit. Donna

Greetings Sorry about this misunderstanding that is taking place.. If your on the COOLEY-L @rootsweb.com that is the DISCUSSION GROUP when your explaining this to someone {a newie NOT familiar with roots mailing list} who is NOT on the COOLEY-L {discussion grp} already... when I have used the term mailing list.. People think its some sort of spammmm junk stuff.. and they won't give it a try.. so I use the words of discussion grp. as that is what we are doing... Discussion{s] about COOLEY COOLY related materials.. so if your getting this message on the COOLEY-L {look to see where this is From: } then not to worry your not missing another discussion group that I'm referring too.. OK.. if someone knows of other COOLEY discussion groups other then the COOLEY-L@rootsweb.com then they should post to List... Thanking all and sorry for this understanding.. Hope this will clear up my meaning of COOLEY discussion group.. If you read all the facts its really a grand tool for research of the 2000's I hope to find my Nancy WELLS b.1797 lineage with the help of these: REMEMBER you have to contact Orin before going to BYU Primary study to do this Special study for the WELLS as he has to do some necessary paper work before you just show up to do the WELLS Special DNA study within the BYU {Primary} DNA Study WELLS Special DNA study http://www.rootsweb.com/~wellsfam/dnaproje/dnaproje.html Wells Family Research Association http://www.rootsweb.com/~wellsfam/wfrahome.html Orin R. I'm female so don't take offense I like being more complex I also working with BYU as I'm trying to host an event before summer here in Los Angeles Co. CA. at the local LDS History Center.. we need at least 200 participants to schedule the events.. as they come from Utah to do this collection of samples.. http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/genealogy.htm Primary DNA Study offered by BYU {Brigham Young Univ. Family reunions are a great place especially if you go to or help plan these large ones 200+ take your time read all the Url's info. there lots to read and think about as I studied this DNA issue for about a 1 yr. and I really can't see any problem especially since I'm sure LDS have their legal side taking care of any legalities that might enter into your thoughts.. and I know they are worth Millions so they're careful about these things...
