My 2-g grandmother was Lucinda Julia COOLEY born about 1848 in OH and died in NE. She was married to John T. BEEMAN. I know nothing about her parents or siblings. In my great-granmother's obituary it said her family moved from MI to Boone Co, NE, in 1874. Lucinda Julia COOLEY is buried in Albion, NE. Betty Jackan
I found a Thomas H. Cooley living at 2702 Franklin in Omaha Nebraska, married, according to the 1890 Excelsior Omaha City Directory; and also listed was Arthur H. Cooley living at 2418 Seward in Omaha, also married. Does anyone have any information of these Cooleys. I am looking for a Thomas Cooley, son of (???) Isaac Cooley and Sarah Evans ( Indiana), and a Thomas Cooley, son of William S. Cooley and Emily Potts (also from Indiana). Thanks for your help.
Hi Robert, I don't know anything about your Greatgrandfather Robert Cooley and I don't know where Merridale Grove, Wolverhampton is located; however, it is interesting that my Grandfather was also named Robert "Bob" Cooley, born 29 January 1861 and died 13 February 1927. Per my Father, Albert Allie "Al" Cooley, born July 29, 1897, his father "Bob" was born at the foot of Rocky Ridge near Anniston, Alabama in Calhoun County, Alabama, U. S. A. The Cooley families came to Marshall County, AL in the late 1800s. Our Robert "Bob" Cooley died at the old Cooley Homeplace at Manchester Community (which is in Marshall County, Alabama, just outside the Corporate Limits of the City of Guntersville, Alabama) at the foot of Georgia Mountain, on the South Side of the Guntersville Lake/Tennessee River. He married Ellen Jane (Bolton) Cooley, born in February 1861 at Manchester, Marshall County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Richard William Bolton, my Great Grandfather, and Levena Elizabeth (McMinn) Bolton, my Great Grandmother). Richard William Bolton came to the U. S. with his family from London, England before the 1850 U. S. Census that picked them up by name for the first time in Marshall County -- with his mother, Jane (Austin) Bolton Cross; his step-father Charles Cross, his sister Margaret Bolton, his brother John A. Bolton, and his half-sister Jane Cross. Your Robert might have been a generation before my Robert Cooley. My Robert Cooley's father was John Cooley born about 1823 (per my mother, either in Greenville, S.C. or in Tennessee). I have not located any birth records for John Cooley. My Mother had personal knowledge that my John Cooley's father was James Cooley (believed born, per my Mother, in either Greenville, S. C. or Virginia). I also have no birth records on my James Cooley. I did find in the Cleveland, GA Public Library a record of an 1850 U. S. Census Household for a James Cooley, 56, born in VA; a Rebecca Cooley, 56, born in VA; a John Cooley, 23, born in TN, and an Elijah Cooley, 17 (maybe with a ditto to TN - couldn't really tell on the microfilm). At 23, I thought that John Cooley was old enough to be marrying about that time so I looked in the Early Marriage Records for Georgia and found a John Cooley who married Lydia Ann Kirkpatrick on 10 December 1850 after that 1850 U. S. Census had been conducted. I think that those individuals on that Cass County, GA census may be my Great Grandfather John Cooley and my Great Great Grandfather James Cooley. My Mother had personal knowledge that our John Cooley married Cassie "Liddie" Kirkpatrick; therefore, that could be the same as the Lydia Ann Kirkpatrick who married that John Cooley in Cass County, GA in December 1850. Our John Cooley and Cassie "Liddie" (names she was called by family members) Kirkpatrick both have monuments at the Cooley Cemetery at Manchester -- a few miles from my home at 345 Warrenton Shores Drive, Guntersville, Alabama 35976-6132.
