Hello all, Does anyone have a Louis Cooley married to a Matilda <Unknown last name>. I'm not certain where they were from but the two children listed below were born in Monroe, Michigan. I would appreciate any help I could get on Louis Cooley. Happy to share what I do have on the rest of these folks but for neatness sake here's just an outline. <see below> The two Snavely men the sisters married were twin brothers and I was always led to believe that the sisters were twins too. This sounds kind of like what I'm looking for, but who were the others in his family? Is any relationship known or suspected to Benjamin Cooley? Because I saw one of the places attributed to Benjamin is also Hertfordshire. Also, I am curious, are their any probate records or anyting on either the Cooleys or the Prudden's? That chain of church records raching to the 15th century really doesnt' tell me much about how they lived, and I am curious. Samuel Cooley (also variously spelled coley and Coole) was one of the original settlers of the Massachusettes Bay Colony. He, and several others in his family, emigrated from Great Munden, Hertfordshire, England in the 1620's. There are several descendants named Samuel, also. His father was John Coley, born I believe around 1586 in England. Hope this helps.
Nope, I have plenty on Chapins - want to know specically about the parents o the Cooley's woh married the Chapin men. Looks like they aref rom not too far apart in England, could be distantly related. Dora --- Leona Cook <lbcook@houston.rr.com> wrote: > According to The Cooley Genealogy by M. E. I didn't realize I wasn't clear - I meant the emigrant Cooley's - Samuel and Benjamin whose daughters married Samuel Chapin. What area and time frame are you talking about. I can only find my COOLEY line in Tennessee/Alabama but again I haven't gotten past my great-grandfather. My mother was Jerusha COOLEY GRIDER born in Alabama, her father was James William COOLEY born in Tennessee and his father was Jesse COOLEY born I think in Tn. but not sure. Jesse was married to a Martha COOLEY also born in Tn. Regina Fellow Listers, My Great Grandfather was Matthew Cooley. My Mathew Cooley married Elizabeth Smith. =

I don't know if this is considered such an idiotic question that noone wants to answer it, but I can see that Benjamin Cooley and Samuel Cooley were roughly contemporary in Springfield, MA. Each had a daughter marry a son of the emigrant Chapin. As far as I can learn Benjamin Cooley didn't even have a son named Samuel. So who was Samuel Cooley, and was he related to Benjamin Cooley? In the Detroit Free Press, Thursday, June 27, 2002, under the heading "ASK THE FREE PRESS" appeared the following: "QUESTION: Show Low is that town in Arizona threatened by the giant wildfire. Isn't that a strange name for a town? ANSWER: Not to poker players. The story is that a local rancher won a hand of cards in 1876, after his opponent said, "Show low, and you win." The rancher, Croyden Cooley, drew a two of clubs and won his opponent's ranch and the right to name the town. The main street in town is called Deuce of Clubs Drive." Here is another extrodianary tool. A Panoramic Map of what the town you are researching looked like back in the 1800's. Fascinating, and using lizardtech, you can zoom in and find your ancestors home - almost! http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/pmhtml/panmap.html
I am from the William Cooley family that moved to MS from SC around 1818. Believe this William is the one John Cooley of SC lists in his will, along with Allen, Kinchen, and Salley. Need help in documenting and proving the connection between William and John Cooley i.e.: that fact John Cooley of SC is father of William Cooley of MS. Thanks for any help and best Regards, JIMMY E COOLEY jecooley@comcast.net
Dear List, Have any of you been scammed into buying a book on your family? Well, there is another company that has taken up where Halbert's of Bath Ohio scheme left off. Please go to this site to read about the company and pass this on so others will be informed. http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/morphcorp.htm

I found a very nice web site ... I thought I'd pass it on. Government Land Patent pages. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp? You can even view the original patent papers.....squiggly handwriting and all.
