Am looking for any info (especially Parents or siblings) on a Joseph COOLEY aka Josiah COOLEY. He was born in 1838 somewhere. Found him in the Calhoun Co. MI census for 1860. He married Louisa NICHOLS from Jackson Co. Mi Feb. 18, 1866 in Sheridan Twp. in Calhoun Co.MI . They had eleven children. They lived for awhile in Springport, Jackson Co. It has been reported she had a sister living in Jackson Co. at that time. A Ira COOLEY was listed in the 1850 census for Jackson Co. and was told he maybe the father or brother, but no proof. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you Phyllis feefee@mach7
Listers, It seems I am not getting my mail. I do not know if it is a problem with my on line service. I do not know if my mail is going out either. I will try again today. COOLEY SMITH WHITNEY HOPKINS TEMPLE WILDER WALKER DAVIS THOMPSON KIRBY MA. N.Y. CT. Maureen
Maureen, You would get better responses if you would include the name of the person you are looking for, not just the last name.. We're all looking for Cooleys on this list. Include a first name, birth date, death date... whatever you have on someone and then ask about his/her parents information. You have to start with what you know. I have received four of your messages but have not responded to any. One was not about genealogy. One did not include any names at all. One was your response to someone else's request for information about a William Cooley. And, this message that only has last names. Were there others that I didn't get? We'd love to help you. We are all hoping that you might have a clue about one of our own stumbling blocks. We wish you lots of help... just give us something to work with. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maureen <abc@empire.net> To: <COOLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 10, 2000 10:28 AM Subject: [Cooley] Mail? > Listers, > It seems I am not getting my mail. Hello: Does anyone have any information on a McCarver that was in a gunfight about 1880 in Missouri or Arkansas. His brother was in jail for a killing and after another gunfight , caused by a card game the McCarver left his family and went to Clifton, Wayne County, Tennessee, where he changed his name to COOLEY and raised another family. He lived his life near Cypress Inn, Tennessee until his death about 1912. Steve Cooper scooper75@mindspring.com 75 Cooper Drive Florence, Alabama 35633
Sorry for e-mailing you direct, but some lists get upset if the subject isn't genealogy related. No, your information was wrong. If the off-duty police officer was at fault in the accident, HE is liable for all damages. Havre your friend check with a good civil lawyer in their town to verify this. Good luck. john antes

Dear Listers, A friend of mine was hurt in a bad car accident. The person who caused the accident was cited at the scene. She recently told me that she can not get treated for her injuries or be compensated for her losses because she just found out that it was an off duty police officer who had hit her. I told her I did not think this was right and I would ask around. My question is: CAN THIS BE TRUE? Thank you, Maureen Cooley
No its not true, and I don't think this list is the place for these "issues." That is what we have the legal profession for. Tell her to call her attorney.
Hello, Thank you for the info on Frederick Cooley, but this person is not my relative or the father of my relative. My Frederick shows up on the 1850 census, living in La Salle Co., IL with his wife Jane Dodge and 1st child, a son, Noah J. Cooley brn 1850. My Frederick moves his family to Kansas and lives there until 1899. He then moves to CA and lives with his daughter, my Great-Grandmother, Ella Jane Cooley Rannells. Frederick dies in CA in 1902 on the Rannells Ranch in San Diego, I have proof of this info. Frederick claims he was brn 1822 in MAss. I am trying to connect him to his father (not proven) George Cooley and Lydia Hubbard. Thanks again. Kathy, Thank you so much for the info, - I have copies of this book as well. I made many trips to the LDS library here in Santa Monica to the library where I found the Cooley book that you speak of. My only concern is that I cannot PROVE that my relative Frederick L. Cooley is a son of George and Lydia Cooley. I have found George living with his other son, Francis H. Cooley brn 1822 and he is suppose to be a twin to my ancestor Frederick. No proof yet. Anyway, my Frederick claims he was born in Mass in 1822 and I cannot find any records of this birth anywhere in any town or county of MASS. Thanks so much again , Mary Stokely McKillop El Segundo, CA In a message dated 5/4/00 8:44:28 AM, rkleigh@bwn.net writes: << I will send you the next two previous ancestors in another email. My Cooley family lived in Massachusettes, some parts of New York and CT.I have been trying to research them, but I do know they did travel around quite a bit. When they did settle it was in the three states I mentioned. I have hit a brick wall with my GGrandfather. I guess I did not get to far. I do not think I have seen anyone on these pages that look familiar.Maybe I should just give up and hire someone to do all the head banging against that brick wall. I usually do not get discouraged but I am at odds as to what to do next. Thank you Maureen
Hello Ct Cooley Researchers, Can anyone connect to Leonard Roswell Cooley bn in Ct. ca 1826. I thought Roswell may have been a family name. The only way I found he was from Ct was on 1880 census of Pensacola Fl. He too moved around, married ca 1864 in Louwndes? Cy, Ala. Have no parents, siblings or date of death. He married Dicey Catherine Patillo, widow of John Fields. Thanks, Sally VMcKillop@aol.com wrote: > > Maureen, > Please do not give up on the your Cooley line.
