Joakim, I just sent you a link to the 1930 census page, which shows Herman and Signe had been married 5 years. Of course, that's not proof they married. I found several Herman Carlson obituaries, but none that mentioned your Ruth. Unfortunately, Cook County marriage records for the 1920s are not yet on line. However, the county Web site cookcountygenealogy.com shows two Ruth Carlson births at about the right time, one in June 1927 and the other July 1928. Depending on the date of the census, you might order one or both of those and see if either is yours. Good luck! Diane
