I've "rescued" an old photograph of Otis SCATTERGOOD which was taken at the G. W. Stewart Studio in Bluffton, Indiana. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Otis likely in his teens at the time. Based on limited research and thanks to a SCATTERGOOD Family Researcher I was able to gather the following information regarding Otis and his family: Otis Odell SCATTERGOOD was b. 18 Jun 1872 in Wells, IN to parents Charles Wesley SCATTERGOOD (b. 29 Jul 1849 in New Garden, OH d. 15 Jan 1928 in Ossian, IN) and Eliza Almira SOWLE (b. 28 Jan 1852 in Wells, IN d. 1924). Otis was one of 4 children born to this couple including, Isaac Euclydes; Otis Odell; Milton Everett; and J. Whitfield SCATTERGOOD, all born in Wells, IN and Dowagiac, MI between 1870 and 1879. Otis married Eva A. ALLEN (b. abt 1878 in IN) on 18 Jun 1902 in Anderson, IN and together they had a son, Allen SCATTERGOOD b. 10 Jul 1910 in IL. Otis d. 1958 in Lebanon, IN. Otis is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN. Census records provide the following information: 1910 census of Chicago, IL: Otis O. SCATTERGOOD, age 37, married 7 years, born IN, parents born OH/IN, Asst. Newspaper Circulation Mgr. Eva A. SCATTERGOOD, wife, age 32, married 7 years, no children, born IN, parents born NC/IN + 1 Lodger 1920 census of Chicago, IL: Otis O. SCATTERGOOD, age 47, born IN, parents born OH/IN, a Newspaper Solicitor Eva A. SCATTERGOOD, wife, age 42, born IN, parents born NC/IN Allen SCATTERGOOD, son, age 9, born IL 1930 census of Orange, NJ: Otis O. SCATTERGOOD, age 57 Eva A. SCATTERGOOD, age 52 Allen SCATTERGOOD, age 19 Otis' son Allen SCATTERGOOD was a chemistry professor at University of Mass. at Lowell and is believed to have died there in 1983. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family.
