This is very exciting, to have proof that Jacob and Tillie Rubin were indeed living in Chicago on Lake street around 1900, thank you so much for the research involved. I had some of the pages Jacob was on, and had not noticed his entry - my fuzzy vision took it's toll in this case! I have edited my quote down to what is essential for the search that is still on for this family in the 1900 census, to keep from overloading digest subscribers. As you mentioned, it may be that the entry at Ancestry was so faint that it could not be indexed. But I also think it quite possible that the page this family was on may just have been skipped when Ancestry got their film, and might be at FamilySearch or HeritageQuest. I have a very antique setup and am on dialup, so browsing for records is very difficult, if anyone can check other sites besides Ancestry that might have the 14th street addressed that the Rubins were at, maybe we can find them that way, and I would very much appreciate it. I need to see if Jacob Rubin was naturalized by 1900, so I know whether to look for his naturalization records in Cook county. Again, thanks for any more assistance finding early records from before 1910 on this family. By 1910, they are in California, and I have those census records except for Jacob, Tillie and Abraham in Oakland 1920, which also does not seem to be at Ancestry.
