I've been trying to figure this one out for some time - maybe someone has an idea to help me. Marie Kornatowski and Robert Kozlowski were married at St. Hedwig's on Jan. 7, 1913. Marriage license #616155 at FamilySearch.org., also, St. Hedwig church records. Every document after that event lists the family surname as Wiedemann - census, church records for baptism of Chester (born Nov. 2, 1913) and Virginia (born Sept. 25, 1915) at St. Hedwig, naturalization papers for Robert Wiedemann, and his death certificate from Cook Co. He died July 14, 1930. The Kozlowski name is only on the marriage record. Bruce Jones, Robert's grandson, has a Family Tree on ancestry.com - enter Marie Kornatowski, birth 1889, husband, Robert and the Jones Family Tree should come up. Great picture of Robert and their marriage license. Also, Robert states that he immigrated on the Kaiser Wilhelm II from Bremen, arriving NY in November 1903. I have not been able to find either Robert Wiedemann or Robert Kozlowski on a passenger list for the Kaiser Wilhelm. Any ideas as to the different surname and passenger list will be greatly appreciated. Barb P.
Hello Barb, One day you will have this family all figured out. Then what will you do? Be advised that many immigrants did not recall correctly the name of the ship and/or the date of their arrival. What you read on the naturalization papers MIGHT be correct. Then again, it might not. My Anton Martin stated that he arrived in October 1892 in Baltimore with no ship named. I checked for him for a week on microfilm before online indexes and images were available - with no success. Then someone said, "Maybe he made an error or could not recall exactly so many years later when he was naturalized." Bingo!! He arrived in New York, and several days earlier than what he had given. Expand your search. Also know, I have several folks for whom no passenger record can be located. Apparently, some ship's lists have been lost over the years. They want the front of the bus, the middle of the road, and the back of the church.
