I sent this under the heading of Wesley Methodist Episcopal church over the weekend, but thought I would send it under a different heading, since the same building became a part of a different church. I think these old buildings are gone now. I am looking for a photo of the Wesley Methodist Episcopal church that was on North Halsted in Chicago in the 1800s. I found a news story from 1886 saying the church was paid for. I don't know when it was built but I did not find it in the 1885 Chicago City Directory. My guess is that building started maybe 1885 and was finished that year or in 1886. In the1892 city directory the address was given as 1003-1009 N. Halsted. In 1900, it was listed as being located at N. Halsted between Belden and Webster Avenues. In 1923 the address was given as 2225 N. Halsted. In a 1925 news story, the Wesley ME church, located at 2225 North Halsted had merged with the Diversy ME church, which was located at Diversey Boulevard and Seminary Ave. The Wesley M.E. brick parsonage, located at 2229 Halsted and the church were going to be sold. The two churches that merged had a new name: New Wesley ME Church. In a 1926 news story, Belden Avenue Baptist Church, which was located at Belden Avenue and North Halsted, bought the old Wesley M. E. church property. This property was located ½ block south of the baptist church on North Halsted Street. The baptist church was planning to remodel the old Wesley M.E. church and call it the Belden Avenue Baptist Church annex. The Belden Avenue Baptist Church was built in 1888. The "new" annex was nearby. I think these buildings were torn down in the 1970s. I also found this: http://quarriesandbeyond.org/articles_and_books/stone_quarries_bedford.html Under Churches: Belden Avenue M. E. Church, Chicago, Ill. I have not found a church by this name so far. I wonder if it was actually the old Wesley M. E. Church? Debbie
